Its a big state with a large variety of weather, so it depends on where and when you are in California. Winter can be cold but primarily only snows in the mountains. There can also be some amazingly nice sunny days in the Winter. Summer on the coast can be cold due to endless weeks of fog, but unbearably hot inland. Fall is my favorite time of year here.
For fun, you can do just about any indoor or outdoor activity. There is quite a bit of variety.

You can do anything you want here. Surf and snowboard the same day if u want. So much nightlife in los angeles area (where i live). Yes it does get cold here during winter but not like the east coast. Summer sucks during august/september cuz it gets so dam hot.
The guy who posted before me, where he lives, is also VERY nice. I love that area along the ocean :2thumbsup:

I live in the Bay Area near San Francisco and there are many cold, rainy, overcast days during the winter. In fact, just last week it rained a couple times. It remains fairly hot where I'm at through the summer and fall, San Francisco can still be pretty cold at night during the summer.

I lived in San Diego for a few years as well which is the closest well populated city to Mexico. San Diego is more consistently sunny throughout the whole year, although there were usually a couple weeks of rain and some overcast days in the winter.

In California and the Bay Area particularly we are spoiled with sports. We have several teams in every major sport so a lot of people are into that. Also we have some really quality music venues and music scenes here, so I go to a fair amount of concerts/raves. Food is really quality here, although it seems alot of the more exotic stuff is more expensive.

Lots of hiking areas here near San Francisco, lots of beaches down by Los Angeles and San Diego, there are some ski/snowboarding areas to believe it or not.

SF overrated? As compared to what? Did you visit only The Tenderloin or something? Really was in Livermore, not SF, and it was 11 p.m.? What other cities have you visited or lived in?

    ROFLMAO.
I work in Livermore. And it does close up early.
I'm pretty happy to drive west toward the house.

But to answer a good question by a banned poster because someone else could use the info,
South is typically dry and sunny, either beach or inland.

There are snow options, especially the Sierras.

Bay Area gets a rainy grey winter, but a late summer season that gets hot, factoring in humidity.

Going north, it turns into a warm Pacific Northwest. Arcata and inland can feel like a temperate rainforest. Through trimming season is nice.

Going east, the state gets pretty "western," with scrublands, deserts, low mountains (I'm exempting the Sierras here as they are more like the southern Rockies).
