This evening, my 27 year old daughter touched me deeply. She told me that she wants to get a mother/daughter tattoo with me.

We want the kind that you have to hold together to see it or read it - half on me - half on her.

The pic she showed me was a quote but she couldn't really read what that one said. She wants me to come up with a saying for the tattoo and then she will price it.

Does anyone have any good ideas?

I don't like the half and half tattoos because people die, and then you're left with a constant reminder of how bereft you are, left kind of "half" a person.

    Probably not this one:

Although it might be a cliche, I like the idea of two halves of a heart. It has your name on one side and your daughters name on the other. It is actually the complete heart on each of you, but could also be put together to form the completed heart. If that makes sense. Maybe the same idea, but with a quote, instead.

Or you could both have something like this:

Thanks for the ideas. I have thought how it would be to be left with half a tattoo so I like the one with the heart and wording. That's kind of what we want. We don't want two individual tattoos that match.

I just liked that individual one because it had a mother, daughter and a heart all in one. Something like that could be done but resemble the middle picture. Entwined in the flowers your names, perhaps. I also like the two but one idea because half and half might be a little naff unless it is fairly simple. You'll definitely have to post a picture. :)

That was great of your Daughter to think of that.

I like this idea. A lock and a key, neither works without the other, they dont match identically but are still a pair tattoo which have meaning and symbolisation.

    Thanks, Tazer.

Thanks, MamaPeace, but she already has a lock tattoo.

I'm thinking of putting lyrics from the song "Like My Mother Does". She played this for me a while back and it still makes me cry every time I hear it. It's a country music song and my daughter likes country music.

I've sketched out a heart with the bridge lyrics around it: "She's a rock. She is grace. She's an angel. She's my heart and soul." Half would go on her and the other half on me. It works out pretty well.

I'll run the idea past her later this evening.
