I've been having a hard time feeling understood at my house my whole life. Recently, my parents have labeled me as a hopeless drug addict. They sent me to several rehabs and i have come out of it all with a new feeling. I know that I am not a drug addict just because I enjoy smoking marijuana but my family does not understand this. They feel that i have to choose family or drugs. I feel like i just want to choose happiness. I need help finding a place to go and advice on what to do in this situation. I'm considering communes or living at a friends house...i am currently in Illinois. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. one love eace:
I would say that on the one hand, your family is overreacting by sending you to rehab. I've heard of kids going to rehab for weed, and coming back into way harder drugs. It's just a bad idea to send a kid to rehab for weed. on the other hand, I would say that if weed is interfering with your life that much, then it's a problem moving out might be good. family therapy might be good (if they'll agree to it). hope that everything works out!
Your parents are unfortunately misguided and misinformed, and it sounds like they're the kind who won't even attempt to listen to reason- to them, weed is a horrible, dangerous, deadly, addictive disease. How did they send you to rehab? didn't you refuse? do you live with them still?
Are you under 18? Still dependent? Using their money to buy pot? Do I think weed is evil? Obviously no; BUT using your parents to get it, smoke it in their house and be stoned all day isn't exactly being 'misunderstood' it's being an ass. Grow up a little, smoke more responsibly and if you're an adult, go out and get your own place. ~ FlowerMama
It all depends on how you feel. Weed is a drug, just like alcohol and nicotine and if you feel that you can't live without it because you are stressed out and unhappy, you probably do have a problem. On the other hand, going to rehab for weed does seem a bit harsh. Are you 18 or over? It would probably be a good idea for you to go to a commune or just escape from the city for a while. Get a summer job on a farm or offer to work for food. Many people with addictive personalities have been able to focus their addiction into doing something positive like working in the fresh air out in the country rather than just spending all their time sitting around at home, smoking pot or drinking beer.
