I was wondering if it was possible for me to reach enlightenment while I'm anti-depressants. I'm trying to implement a meditation routine in my everyday activities and while it grounds me, I was wondering if the anti-depressant that I take will hinder my progress in anyway being it messes with my brain chemistry. Any advice or opinion would be helpful. Thanks.

Reaching enlightenment is not a correct destination

What is the correct destination? Enlightenment sounds calm and peaceful. That's where I want to be! :)

What do you define as enlightenment?

Feeling one with everyone. Breaking down barriers/judgments in my mind to let the truth flow through. To feel closer to my higher power.

The fact that you wonder if it will block you, blocks you. If you let that go, it doesn't matter what you eat or drink or smoke or do. Holding on to something won't let you reach enlightenment. Just as holding on to the idea of reaching enlightenment itself.

Enlightenment is not a state of mind.

    Anti-depressants are irrelevant.

That does make sense. So you're saying that the chemicals from the pill won't interfere with my meditative progress?

It is my belief that it is all the repressed stuff that causes the problems for each of us , dont quit the meds. work on clearing out the repressed stuff first . You might read some of the posts on another forum http://meditationtime.grou.ps/ desert rat

I will quote the poster above you:

Everything is irrelevant, enlightenment is in essence indeed not a state of mind, but a place within and without you.

So how do I reach that place inside me and how will I know when I'm there? Is it a feeling or do you just know?

I don't know nearly what the older hippies on here know, but enlightenment is defined as the attainment of spiritual knowledge or insight.

By being on her mind, in her thoughts. By worrying about it, by thinking about it, by letting it block the process of letting go.

Not by the physical effects it has.

I could imagine amphetamines affecting your ability to clear your mind, but not anti-depressants.

    This.

I've been on medication that has made me feel like a zombie and while that does clear my mind...it makes me too zoned out where I can fall asleep while I meditate. I'm just hoping this medication doesn't do that.

As long as you wonder and worry about your medication you won't ever reach anything that could be considered enlightenment.
If indeed it does stay on your mind then yes, your medication is blocking your ability to enlighten.

But maybe just try meditating and see what happens instead of worrying about whether it might work or not.
