I find the subculture really unique and would love to highlight an alternate path of living. Not many people even know it's an option. How do I get a hold of any of these communities? Can anyone send me some info?

The best p vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv lace is best determined by yourself. You can usually try a few different communities, trying each one that holds you interests. Give it a couple of months, to allow things to settle down, And enjoy what you have.

I get what you are saying but where can one start to find a *real* commune? not just an idea, not just some shitty land, but a thriving, working peaceful community? I am fed up with search engines and people directing me to other sites. I want real experience and them maybe I can make my mind up on what I want. It's like looking for love online. Anyone can make themselves look good, but when the chips are down can't back it up.

Its a challenge. The ic.org directory doesn't have a lot of search options.

My personal opinion is that since the failure rate is so high when groups start that unless you want the excitement of a 'start up' you should limit your search to groups that have been around for a while - like 10 years or more. But I don't see any way to do that in the directory except by going through each entry one at a time.

FWIW we've been around since 1968.

that's kind of what I'm looking for. One that's been around a bit. I was hoping people would just post their experiences on here and that would narrow it down a bit. I have a few prospects but I don't have time to waste with projects that are never going to get off the ground. I have a lot of dedication and commitment to give to a communal space but a lot of them are clandestine or failing.
