I'm joining an online Buddhist forum but for the life of me I can't think of a username.I don't want to use the one I use here.Does anyone have any suggestions?.Maybe something with a Buddhist meaning but not something which suggests I know all about it,which I don't.Thanks.:sultan:
Thanks for your suggestion. But as I understand it "Samsara" is the state of being we wish to avoid and elevate ourselves from if we are practicing Buddhism.Anyone got anything with more positive connotations?
Yes Bodhi is good.It means the understanding a Buddha has regarding the true nature of things. My mind is getting to work now and I'm getting some ideas.
What sort of Buddhist group are you joining? Just a forum or something like Treeleaf Online Sanga? I think you might be spending too much time thinking about a user name for a persona. Worried about a name that looks good and says something and...well, I think you know what I'm sayn'. What's wrong with Fairlight?
Sidharta Mind traveller This moment Love Salvation Deliverance Cosmo Mostly ink Ja man Multi colored Bird Justin Case Mostly monkie Ask not The trouble with being This and that Bummer what a Keep on..whats that other part?
I've joined a Buddhist group in real life that is local to where I live.I don't really want to get into the politics of what school of Buddhism it is or who is their spiritual leader,as some of this can get quite contentious. The online forum is just a regular communication forum,it is not stating to be a sangha. I don't want to use "Fairlight" as it has too many mixed up feelings for me having been on Hip for quite a while now and having made so many posts,I need some separation. The Buddhist forum is not a place for gossip and idle chit-chat,so I don't want to slip into that persona.
Of course I am creative enough to come up with a username.I just wanted to hear some suggestions and share something. What's so unusual about that?
Okay so I went with "Mostly Ink",Hari's suggestion. No obvious Buddhist meaning, but I like it.Thanks Hari.
what does it matter? why are you so attached to the concept? isn't the point of buddhism to lose your worldly attachments?
Yes natural philosophy, you are right in a sense.I admit I am a "bad" Buddhist.I am highly attached to concepts and worldly attachments.I am just humbly trying to become less so.I am investigating Buddhism and learning what I can relate to and what strikes me as not being correct. If I lived on a mountain in Tibet all this might come more naturally to me.However living in one of the central urban conurbations in the world,London,I have to remain and live in that real world.Even Buddhists care about the impression they make, and choosing a username that feels right for you in the context in which you will be engaging is,I feel, worthy of consideration.
