A friend and I are moving out of the giant hole in the world they call Pennsylvania, and we're headed west! I'm a college drop out but I've been working and supporting myself since I was 14, and she's coming out for a music therapy internship in Del Mar. This place has been so isolating we would love to find a great group of people to enjoy the sun and the sea with! Does anyone know of a community out west that's not religiously centered?

I'm sure you can find many people in San Diego to enjoy the sun and beaches with, I'm not too sure about the commune part of it though. Ocean Beach may be an area you want to explore as it has the most hippie oriented vibe to it. The city is pretty fast paced and materialistic overall and even with some military areas that make some areas fairly conservative. There is no shortage of Beautiful weather and great food there tho.

Hate to tell you about this thing here called "May Gray" and "June Gloom". :)
It's frequently overcast along the coast during these months due to a strong marine layer. But it'll be nice and pleasant (70s) during Aug/Sept/Oct when the more inland areas are sweltering in the 80s&90s.

    Good luck with your move.

I lived in San Diego for ten years, moving from La Mesa to Spring Valley, during my childhood. Unfortunately, I was too young and struggling with other things to ever think of a commune..

Silverstrand is one of the better beaches, because you can see dolphins in the surf if you show up early enough. Mission Beach is the largest, and best, but also the most packed. Point Loma has a cliff side that is just fantastic and beautiful, but it is protected land so you can't take even seashells from there.

I never really had issues with weather there, but times have changed and the weather has changed too, no doubt. I do remember it getting cold enough to see your breath in the mornings, but usually warmed up by the afternoon.

    hope this helps!
