I was diagnossed with depression about a year ago and have been on meds treating it for about the same time. I'm no longer depressed at all, but still struggle with focusing, doing certain tasks, and motivation. I'm not doing as well at my job, my grades at college are horrible, and I'm not motivated to improve myself physically anymore. I'm constantly tired and can't seem to get enough sleep, even after 9+ hours. I have no depression and no anxiety whatsoever anymore. Could I have been misdiagnosed?

The first medication I tried was Wellbutrin. It worked really well for me, I think it was the fact it gave me a boost of stimulation. It helped me concentrate and get motivated to do things I wouldn't normally do. I started working out and put on a good amount of muscle. Since the medicatiopn helped me so much I though why not add on another one? Stupid idea.

I went back to my doctor and he put me on an SSRI called Cipralex (lexapro). I hated it at first, but was told to give it up to a month or more to start feeling the good effects, so that's what I did. It never really gave me "good" effects, it basically dulled me. I stuck with it for 4 months trying to convince myself it was a good thing, but recently quit it.

I have a friend who has ADHD and depression and she takes an SSRI alongside Adderall. She let me have some of her adderall XR and it was like night and day the change it had on me. I was so motivated I got so much done it was incredible. Althought Adderall was much stronger, I noticed it was very similar to Wellbutrin. Do you think I could have ADD or ADHD? I was never diagnosed as a kid, but then again I was never tested.

I have an appointment with my doctor at the end of the month. I'm going to tell him basically what I said here, but I'm not sure if I should mention the fact I took adderall without a prescription. I really really REALLY want it prescribed to me, but I'm not sure if telling him straight up would make him think I just want to abuse it. I think it would improve my life tremendously.

Do you think I may have been misdiagnosed? If so what do you think's the problem? How should I talk to my doctor about this? Thank you.

Its not very likely that you have been misdiagnosed. I would tell your doctor absolutely everything to do with your health. Including that you took the Adderall. The doctor will not punish you, he or she obviously will not be happy that you took unprescribed meds, but they should always know everything that is relevant, only then can they help you.

Ask your doctor plainly if they think you may be suffering with something else. They will make absolutely sure that you are taking the right meds for you.

well, doctors get diagnoses wrong a lot. Depression is one of the hardest to correctly diagnose. Adderal is used to treat depression as well as ADHD. I don't think I would tell him you. took someone's meds. esp a controlled substance.

Impo ,, you sound like a drug seeker. you claim motivation on drugs with stimulant effects. And seeking out that drug ..

How about a nice breakfast, orange juice and a cup of coffee, limit coffee during the day time, Sleep:repeat 5 times a week ,, on Saturday or your day off- sleep in but dont over sleep.. Eat well, add BRAN and Fiber in your diet, If your running to the bathroom all the time being alive. Its better than staying in bed depressed. repeat.

Detox yourself with some Coconut Oil, and quit depending on quack drug dealers to fix your problems..

    repeat.

going off an anti-depressant or other prescribed psycho-active drug suddenly can cause problems.

if you want to stop taking a drug, talk to your doctor about whether or not you need to draw down gradually or not

regular, gentle exercise might help. dietary changes might help. other stuff too. if you are interested, I could say more

These symptoms are depression symptoms. If these aren't then what do you think depression is? Depression is not just feeling sad. I think you very well could be depressed.

anti-depressants aren't really meant to be a long-term solution. If you don't think you're depressed why don't you come off them completely and reassess your mental health. If you still can't focus or find motivation talk to your doctor again.

    Aren't they in some instances?

What about the chemical imbalances...the problems with serotonin...those don't just go away.

It has never been proven that this causes depression. Makes for good advertising though.

Strictly personally speaking, I would use anti-depressants as a permanent solution only as an absolute last resort in this situation. I do understand this may be deemed necessary in certain cases, but even if this applied to the OP it would still be a good idea to come off the anti-depressants for a while, treat it holistically with a good diet and exercise, and then reassess in a couple of months.

Just an update I guess. I'm off all the antidepressants and am being treated for ADD with adderall. It's like night and day. I have so much more motivation and drive to do things and to follow through and see that I finish them. My grades are good, I have a new job doing something I really love (cook), and started weight lifting again. I'm told to take my meds daily but I only really use it when I feel I need it. This is 100x better than any crap antidepressant I've tried, by far!

Orison how do I sound like a drug seeker? I had a hunch what I was doing wasn't working and that I needed something else, and guess what, I was right! I don't even need to take it everyday to get the full benefits. I agree though, a huge part of it was eating better and getting back into working out daily.
