did anyone happen to see the video of one of the waves? it wasn't as high as it was powerful, but water just kept pouring onto the land and multiple waves at least 15-20 feet high were crashing onto the beach... it was nuts.

at least i can rely on the weather channel when all else fails.

yes extremely nuts..the amount of water behind the tidal wave was phenomenal...
i just feel so much for all those people who have lost brothers, sisters, children, mothers, fathers, homes, possessions of sentimental value...and the sad thing is these are people who have never been blessed with the opportunity of having everything at their fingertips (well most im sure)
it will take so much time for them to be able to resurrect their lives.

I am glad that I was born here, but we are ignorant and arrogant. We bring ourself closer and closer to our destruction day by day.

I wish there was something I could do in efforts to help those people :(

they are on the other side of the world. what can we do to help them, seriously?? when we have our own problems here?? people living and dying on the streets. so many homeless, and yet you people whine and scream about people that died in indonesia. I guess america has to go help them out too, huh? just so that we dont look as bad. and all the homeless people here in the states can go fuck themselves. you know, its starting to be a scary situation here on our own land. I dont even live in the big city, and I see quite a few homeless people downtown asking for change... and its getting to be so much of a situation in this college town, that merchants downtown are trying to put a stop to the "aggressive panhandlers" as they put it. plus they are hanging out on rooftops. but, hey we gotta help them out...... even when their government probably wont accept handouts.

You idiot...not to make yourself look better, but because they are in a human crisis and suffering beyond anything you have ever suffered..Every country has it's own problems, own people with individual problems, but not every country is dealing with an epic natural disaster..you should count yourself god damned lucky you're in "Gawd's own god-damned country". Besides that, i think america is donating help to Asia...i know Australiais aiding where possible and helping with a $10 million sum...

    dude...

23,000 people just died... can you just get over yourself for a second and realize this? there will be widespread famine, disease, and much more homelessness than you can even imagine out of this whole ordeal. this is the problem with my fellow americans (and yes, sometimes i fail to realize this within myself too)... we don't always step out of our world and realize the larger picture.

okay does it take a natural disaster for yall to realize there are major problems?? it seems like you feel like you are a humanitarian all of a sudden. there have been many problems and disasters before this. look at all the people in africa that are dying of aids. there are earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, snowstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes that go through areas all the time and you act as if this is a first occurence that something big ever happened. you know you cant help everyone in this world, right??? no one has enough money to do that. hell I cant hardly take care of myself. and you people think I should send support to other places?? please. all Im saying is, Im tired of america helping out other nations and their problems when we have our own problems here. maybe if things will be taken care of here first, we could work on other countries.

no shit... look at all the people dying each and every year in africa due to aids, yet I dont see anyone mentioning that..... its like a natural disaster happens and all of a sudden yall think you deserve the nobel peace prize or something for your humanitarian efforts.

so would you feel the same way if, lets say, the BIG ONE were to hit los angeles and devastate the west coast, and other countries were like, "fuck the US, they don't deserve anything, we have our own problems, blah blah blah..."

no, i bet you'd be pretty teed off if another government were to say that.

and what's wrong with being a humanitarian? is it wrong to care about other people's lives? i don't see what kind of point you're getting at here. living in the ricehst country on earth, i'd be pretty ashamed if we DIDN'T care. it's like the guy with a house on a hill who'd rather not feed the poor and helpless. that's wrong.

haha I would like to know another government that would actually send money to the US. name at least one.

plus I wasnt happy with all the money/efforts we spent in florida. there are other things that money needs to go to.

my point is that some of you people are trying too hard to fill that typical hippy/humanitarian cliche.

no one claimed to be a humanitarian, or told you to send them money, you fool...we are jsut speaking about compassion, and freely discussing our opinions on some issues at large... of course there is human suffering everywhere...what was your stance on 911? The whole world stopped for that...more people have died from this natural disaster and these people dont have the ability alone to reinstate their lives..america, nor any other country will most likely never clean up issues of homeless people and other shit...but it is being worked on...this is something that calls for immediate action without haste - not something you draw up plans about and try to discuss how long its gonna take...at the moment they need help now...

its a shame some people in government are like you

well obviously you don't represent the majority cause i think florida got more money this year in federal aid than ever. and trust me, it was needed. but then, you're the type of person who says, "if i don't live there, i don't care" so it wouldn't even matter.
