I've been diagnosed with a lot of receding gumline, and the dentist wants to charge me thousands of dollars and do a gum graft. It sounds expensive and horriffic and even though the dentist said gums never grow back I've been able to fix some of the damage with brushing gentler, flossing and using Sensodyne. Any other tips or advice?

    Hello,

    I found this online:

"For those with severely receded gums, a graft from another part of the mouth may be the only option for treatment. If the damage is not quite as bad, then a dentist can clean any gaps or holes in the teeth and gums, and then fill them in with a material that stops the gums from receding further and stimulates re-growth."

I don't know what the material put between the gums & holes would be though. I brush too hard as well, so I switched to a soft, electric toothbrush and I use the same toothpaste as you. If you've been able to fix some of the damage then maybe your dentist would be cool with you leaving it 6 months, giving the home remedies a go and then go back if it's still an issue?

Unfortunately that last visit alone drained me financially for a good long while... and only for them to tell me they need more money. I can't afford to go again; I went because I was in a lot of pain, it's manageable now, and I'd rather deal with it myself because I really don't have any other options, living in a country where healthcare isn't universal or recognized as a human right.

I have a receding gum line too. I have my. Doctor put me on antibiotics when they bleed. Otherwise flossing, brushing and occasionally gargling with tee tree oil works for me.

Try oil pulling. I use coconut oil but olive oil and various seed oils work too. You can Google it and get some detailed information, but basically it's swishing oil around in your mouth.and pulling it through your teeth for 20 minutes every day. Coconut oil is good because it has great antiseptic properties. It's good for gingivitis, abscessed teeth, receding gum line, etc

Oh that sucks :( I see that Melai recommended oil pulling - I read something about that ages ago and it looked interesting!

I think this is a case where the Dr Ellie protocol might be useful. It's oriented at remineralization, but it can't hurt.

Lots of sites about it on the world wide weird.
