I would say that humans are ready for a new type of hippy, one that embraces the technological advancements of modern society, but still lives a sustainable, close to nature lifestyle. This is the way of my thing. I think that a nomadic lifestyle will suit you well, indeed.
I've been wanting to do this for so long (since I've been 20, I'm now 33) but for some reason life just happened. I guess everyone is weird in their own way but I get told constantly I'm weird when I tell people money is just paper, that I don't eat meat, and that I want to live in a van, people just look at me funny. This year will be the year though, I've been slowly giving away all my materialistic things that are holding me back! I plan on saving money this spring, summer, and fall. I then plan on travelling at least every winter, I live in Chicago and the winters here suck but if I can make enough money I might be able to travel 6 months a year! This winter my plans are 1 month staying with a friend in Philippines, 1 month staying with a friend in Japan, and then doing volunteer work (gardening) in Thailand! I love gardening and plan on doing a lot of volunteer work, a great site to check out is www.helpx.net Some books I also recommend are: On The Road by Jack Kerouac Education of a Wandering Man by Louis L'Amour I haven't read either yet but I've heard they are very good Oh ya I plan on building my self a cigar box guitar for my travels, I don't know how to play guitar but I'm sure I'll have a lot of time to learn on the road!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVQPE5c1XLA"]How to Make an Electric Cigar Box Guitar for $25 Happy trails guys
Hey, I'm 18 and I'm also going to start traveling this june. ( currently live in a suburb of Chicago ). I might stay at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage in Missouri this summer ( I didn't get a reply from them yet ) and head towards some warm place after that like Cali. I wish you good luck on your journey and I hope our paths will cross soon Oh and thank's DataSpy for referring me here !!!
Hi if your into it your can come to work at our urban gorilla garden in Jacksonville it may be positive for a first time traveling experience and its not far from the beach either and its also going to become a International hostel by late summer . Right now there are two extra bedrooms with beds and furniture in them and we are turning the garage into a dorm style room as well . We have several projects that have to be redone because of the late frost . I am actually the only real hippie here but i am slowly but surely turning the owner onto the Rainbow Family way of life because he has ultimate permaculture and agroscience knowledge . And also its in a urban kind of semi rural neighborhood to its not a dangerous part of town . And seven blocks away there is a public transport that goes all the way to the beach and back so its not out in the middle of nowhere in case you decide you do not wish to stay you can just split whenever . I have some pics of it i will post later its pretty nice . I will not be here forever i am going back to DC in a few months when spring hits and i would really like to see my friend meet some kind and mellow people . People who will not take advantage of him . Any way i am in a hurry but fell free to drop me a line if you are interested or know someone who is Peace . :daisy:
Im really excited to start traveling. I plan to go a lot by foot and while I don't plan to stay in any place forever I do plan to stop by in a lot of Eco village's and other place I do want to do stop by for a week or two at most and help out and talk to the people. I would love to see a urban gorilla garden so I'll be sure to mark it as a spot to visit when I'm in the area. ^-^
i know where youre coming from. i want to do the same thing. i would be happy to tag along with you if you need a travel partner. i have a bit of experience with this but not for more than 6 months at at time.
If you want to join me gypsy I be happy to have a travel partner. I set my date as June 30 and I set the path for my start but i haven't set any destination to go to yet. I mostly plan to wander and just go where ever the mode hits me. Basically so far I plan to leave on June 30 then head up though Cali and into Oregon and Washington. After that I'm not sure where I'll be going. If you want to see everything I have planed so far or have any tips or idea just go here. http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=466132&page=3 I check every few days so its a easy way to contact me.
I'd love to do it someday not today (i'm studying), but what concerns me the most when I think about that is food. If you have no money, how can you get any food except of course by finding a job for money.. that's what worries me the most
when it's a soulful journey you are allowed your existence . the ways this is allowed are good and plenty . travel sweetly .
I got to do some traveling this summer, and it was great!!!! Im also looking for a companion for this year, but I just figured I would find some likeminded individuals along the way to choose from.....I like hitting festivals and show along the way, it worked out last year and I didn't have any money; well at first I did....lol
I may be able to come too, if you need another person. I'm in the same situation as you. I can throw down some bread.
