The Executive Director of the world's largest anti-government-policy reform event http://www.hempfest.org, Seattle Hempfest which draws 175,000 people annually, the 2001 High Times Freedom Fighter of the Year, has created a anti-bush pro-peace hippiefied resource blog http://www.templedragontimes.net Read about how the two seattle alt-weeklies ignore the uber-sophistication, professionalism and complexity of the event to instead continuously relegate them to "dirty hippies", and how the hate word is used to depict all hippie types. Largest categorized links section (Alt-news sources, alt-culture sites, Iraqi Blogs, Palestinian Blogs, Weird Shit, Israeli Blogs, Right Wing Sites and Blogs, Graphic photos of the Iraq War casualties (children, civilians), and much much more. Funny assed Bush audio and video links, peace news from all over the world, and the mad mumblings of a seasoned Seattle dissident hell bent on non-violently resisting the BushReich and neo-con Devolution. Resistance is fertile! If we don't over-come, we're coming over! Peace through Superior Higher Power!
Dude, hempfest is really just a chance for everyone to get high. this doesn't seem to be the best way of persuading the general public that marijuana should be legal seeing as that a bunch of stoned hippies generally are a pain in the ass. (hey, admit it, we are.)
Naw man, you is WAY off base (and look like a troller anyhoo). The other Hempfests may be an excuse to get high, but you obviously have not been to ours. We are the most fiercely political, socially responsible, sophisticated and uber-complex cannabis policiy reform event anywhere on earth. I won't waste many more words on ya, but you can gain a little insight on the matter by reading my blog at templedragon.net The cop hat and the al jazeera reference in your post reveal to me that you are either a conservative, a republican (or both) or a cop. If you are a cop, well we have made terreific friends with local law enforcement...both SPD and the Port Police. In fact we had 170,000 people and zero arrests two years in a row. put that in your pipe and smoke it! We are working with the University of Washington Schoolof Social Work in incorporate marijuana abuse and prevention into our program. No other pot rally does that. Yes,thousands smoke pot at our event, like they do at hgome every day. But we have passed a state law legalizing medical use in our state, and last year passed a historic cioty wide law making simple possession LOWEST POLICE PRIORITY. So that just disproves your criticism. How can you possible argue with success!!??? Hope to see you at the next Hempfest so I can give you a great big hug, and a big old sloppy wet bisexual kiss on your mouth!! Loving you, your hippie activist brother, Jicama Prickley Pear!
oh yeh, and what's with this WE shit? lmaorof. You guys are too much, but welcome to out tribe anyway. maybe you can learn that we is ok folks after all. "That's all we're saying, just give police a chance!"
Such an awesome thing about my adopted area!!!!!!! I just loved this when it happened (and it makes getting high in Seattle so paranoia free!). And now, I hear on the news this morning that we still have a democrat governer. Yeah, us!
Yeah, I agree... you've got it all wrong. I've attended Hempfest the last few years and there are just as many people toking as people who aren't. And just as Vivian said, we work beautifully with the local police. Hempfest 2005, be there.
It never ceases to amaze me that so many people are afraid of us potheads.I'm afraid of the drunks in their cars.
Umm.. i've been coming to these forums for over 4 years. i'm prolly the last person posting here who the name "mr. bubbles" means anything to. I'm not a cop, i'm eighteen, and i smoke too much pot for that. Politically i'm a reserved liberterean. I think that driving laws, schools, police and fire fighters are a fine thing. I don't think that social security, medicare, pot laws, and foreign intervention is a good thing. Anywhos, back to the point. You aren't going to change peoples minds by playing into their stereotypes, if you really wanted to have a 'hempfest' that could change peoples minds, make it about hemp. Have a big fair where you can demostrate how many wonderful products can be made from this miracle fiber, invite conservatives, try and win people over without getting stoned and having a concert. I'm all for Getting high, and i'm all for political action, just not at the same time. I like you guy's positions, I think your hearts are in the right place. It's just the methods that i think that could be improved. p.s. HOW the FUCK does an al-jazeera reference indicate that i'm a conservative cop? Al-Jazeera is the network that supports Islamic Fundamentalists, not Christian Fundamentalists or Republican Fundamentalists.
Hey Eugene, first off I apologize for intimating that you were a cop. I have been reviewing a lot of right wing sites lately for a project I am involved in and they say that al jazeera kind of stuff alot. Once again, my apologies. You must have never been to our event, or you would know that we have an area that is called the Hemposium, which has demonstrations, panel discussions, exhibitions of industrial hemp products, uses, aspects, etcetera. There is no way that anyone could effectively talk about industrial hemp without talking about the drug war. They are intrinsically related. But we believe strongly that pot laws are flawed in this society, so we would not stop at hemp anyway. Our event is way more than jst bands and people getting high. We are the most sophisticated cannabis polkicy reform event in thre world. I have been working with Dr. Roger Roffman from the University of Wadshington's School of Social Work marijuana treatment program and we are working to incorporate marijauna abuse education and prevention into the program at Hempfest. No other pot event would touch that issue. We have forged a tremendously positive relationship with local cops, the end result being zero arrests at a 175,000 person two day event. I have great respect for first responders, fire fighters, police, etcetera. It is the laws we oppose. To suggest that we should not mix politics with the festival would be to ignore the success we have had on a state and city level. We legalized medical marijuana in washbington state with a 60% vote in '98, and last year we made history by making simple possession lowest police enforcement priotiry with City initiative I-75. We are working with the King County bar Association on a ariety of projects aimed at ending the minimum mandatory sentencing guidelines. We also registered over 1,000 people to vote at this year's event, and print tens of thousands of prgorams chocked full of important and useful data and information... something the red eye for the stoner guy wuld never be able to fully comrehend. So I appreciate your position and arguments, but we have already addressed some of them. I disagree with you on social security and stuff like that, but I am not a libertarian (I was a keynote speaker at last year's state libertarian convention though, per their request). How can you be against medicare? oh, you are 18. The private sector willm never address the needs of the sick and severely poor, I work with a lot of really sick oldfer folks, I am not sure who you suggest would take care of their needs, or should we just let them wallow in their suffering? I would be eager to hear your solutions for ending medicare and SSI without leaving a trail of carnage and misrey behind, in the richest nation on earth. once again, I am sorry if it seemed that I was dissing you before, the al jazeera reference stuck in my craw. I am tired of being accused of being sympathetic to terrorists because I oppose busb and his oil war. Take care, thanks for the thoughtrful post. Be well, Viv-
hahaha well i was one of those lazy potheads that went to hempfest to just get high. and i did. that was 96 and 97 i believe, in seattle. well i dont do none of that stuff anymore so whatever. i like the idea of seattles hempfest but i think alot of people have the wrong idea and people go for the wrong reasons(like my group of me and 10 friends did ) just to get high.
Well,I don't lay around doing nothing, and most of the "kind" people I know are always busy working etc. But,we all never wish to harm anyone or anything. Why would we? Love and peace is the only way for many of us.Imagine if they gave a war and nobody showed? That would be awesome bro.Peace,,,,,,,,,and smoke em iffin ya got em.
