Do not let your children or young adultz us Craigslist ... I have rented three places on Craigslist and each one was deadly or close to deadly... In one house the landlord lived next door and came into the house daily with his bare feet talking loudly and waking people up ... Ohh I forgot to mention the guy waz like a 75 year old dude... but he was hiding behind his age to be able to do what he wantz ... Kinda like when a person yellz they have a child to take care after robbing and hurting some one... But he kept moving criminalz into the house; i believe he knew the people and it was a regular heist.... I believe many people on Craigslist get young people into their home and then intimidate them out of money or their items... I left that house with nothing and people would go through the mail as if it was theirz ... I had some one tell me that some one waz stealing peoples mail but he waz looking out for mine ... lol There are just far to many scum in the world to ever just send your youth into these matterz... The problem iz there are just far to many liarz each person on Craigslist has a hidden agenda and most likely your children will fit the agenda... Or individual person living by themselves .... I alwayz wondered why there were no other list to choose from ... like a edz list or whatever so we could have variety ... of scum bagz...
the best way to find apartments, assuming you're not moving too far away, is just to drive around looking for apartments.
I remember looking for an apartment on craigslist. I asked the guy if it was in a good area, and he was like "yea, it's a good area". Told him I'd be there in an hour to check it out. When I got there and saw this place, it was a shitty lookin rowhouse, in between two even shittier rowhouses with broken windows and one was boarded up. Very sketchy lookin area. Never called the dude back. Hell no, this was the straight up gutter, if he calls that a good area "i'd hate to see what he calls a bad area"
I found the house I'm renting on Craigslist. I also posted a totally legit (meaning, I'm not a 75 year old dude trying to lure someone in ) ad on Craigslist once for someone to take over my lease at my old house. I got a lot of decent replies. A lot of apartment ads on Craigslist are bait and switch scams. I know because I work at a call center that answers leasing calls for apartments and I have to deal with people when they find out that the Craigslist ad for a midtown Manhattan apartment with a doorman and all the amenities one could ever hope for is not actually on special for $600 per month if you move in by March 1. But for house rentals I don't really know where else to look. You have to be careful but I think most of the ads are pretty legit.
If you're not a dumbass Craigslist can be great for all sorts of stuff. Kind of like real life. Maybe your old fart landlord was just a really big fan of the letter 'S' and you pissed him off
I don't think that the problem is craig's list itself. it's more that you need to check into the background of a place a little before you move in. there will be a high turnover rate at crappy apartments. that means that crappy apartments are going to get advertised a lot. find out who last rented the place and why they left. ask the neighbors about the place, etc. also, it's hard to live with anyone. add to that the fact that there is no shortage of fucked up people and total assholes in the world, and it's no surprise that if you move in with total strangers, there is a good chance that you won't like being there.
I've actually came across some pretty great people on craigslist when looking for friends or buying or selling things. However, the people I've met concerning when I was looking for a place to rent have been freak shows! So awesome... One guy I met looked exactly like riff raff from rocky horror. He loved talking about himself and his travels and how he always has projects and is always trying to improve his two story house. He had been adding rooms onto the place for some time (mrs. winchester much?) On the walls going up the stairs, he had built a rock climbing wall... He seemed to have a lot of junk at his place, pretty cool house in general though. He said the best room he had available for rent was his victorian styled room. It was pretty creepy, lol. His most prized possesion seemed to be a naked fairy he had carved in and sent from, Italy, I believe. He had it placed on top of his chimney and he said his neighbors complain and make a big deal out of it. I actually considered moving there but changed my mind cuz he had a lot of rules concerning his place and how he expects his house mates to act. It was very over priced too...and quite frankly, I don't think I'd be able to deal with this guy talking about himself all the time. I've got more house renting story's...

Thankz alot it makez sense but itz the same in the housing game ... I waz just looking for a room to rent but three timez on craigslist I recieved much more .... A friend of mine told me of two people in different situationz being murdered from craigslist adz. Itz just happening so much these dayz itz not so publicized... I paid a legit price for each place and even above average for the last room for some peace and quiet ... But it seemed the land lord found a family to move in so he worked hard to push me out... by any meanz necessary and considering I waz told the state is a "for the owner" state ... it waz not very hard for him to do evil... muahahha
My Craigslist ad says " sexy young thingz only, nice studio apartment, lotz of windows facing my house. No one over 25"
The funny thing about it iz that it iz illegal to sublease your home in most statez ... but ohhh well ...
