I don't have medical coverage right now. I havent been sick or had a cold or anything this year yet after loosing coverage...but what if I do? Post natural remedies for illness and pain here :
There are a bunch of sites that deal with natural and non-perscription health care. In general, I would recomend staying healthy. Eat your veggies. Garlic is good. Cannabis is a good pain reliever.
many chronic illnesses can be prevented thru simple lifestyle and nutritional changes. i'd recommend reading about orthomolecular nutrition (abram hoffer). when i choose my herbal allies i look to the writings of wise women like susun weed, rosemary gladstar, diane stein and jill aviva romm. there is just way too much information to include it all in a post, it's one of those things where you really need to read the books.
aloe vera is really good for skin things, like burns and rashes. I find it helps with mosquito bites too, especially after I've scratched them.
i'm assuming you're not on the pill or other prescription medicines if you don't have health coverage. but i'll post this anyway, in case you are, or someone else referencing this post is. some herbal remedies can screw up the effectiveness of the pill. like st. john's wort, for example. it makes you process drugs faster and reduces circulation so it "dilutes" the pill. if you take a lot of vitamin c every day (like supplements, i'm not trying to scare people away from oranges or anything) and then suddenly stop taking it, the pill is less effective. echinacea and ginseng also interfere with the pill. some things can increase your levels of estrogen (lots of alcohol, for example) but i don't know too much about it. either way, it's always good to check for interactions. the pharmacist should know whats up and will dish out free medical advice much more accurately than i can.
Rose hips are good for general immunity (really high in vitamin C); make a tea and sweeten it with honey (that's good for you too!). Sometimes i mix the tea 1/2 and 1/2 with juice and give it to the kids
for a fever: slice a raw potatoe and let it soak in water (while in the refridgerator) for one night. after its soaked take the slices out and put them in your socks and leave them there for one night. when u wake up the slices will be black and your fever will be down if not completely gone. and lavender oil also helps with a fever
Handwashing! This is your first and best defense against cold/flu bugs. Take your time and lather up real well, betweeen your fingers, up to your wrists....scrub them good. Then when you rinse, tilt your hands so your fingers are slanted downwards toward the drain. Drink lots of water, eat fruits and veggies and get plenty of sleep. Although it may not be considered natural, good old generic asprin is a good cheap way to deal with pain.
eat a good balace of fruits, veggies, and grains. vegetarian has helped me with keeping my health in good balance over te last few years.
I've foudn two effective natural remedies for yeast infections. Boric acid: get empty capsules from the health food store, and fill with boric acid powder. Insert one at bedtime each night for five days. Tea tree oil: out 15 drops of tree tree oil on a tampon or sea sponge and insert at bedtime. Tea tree oil is also a good antiseptic, and a good remedy for skin ailments like psoraisis.
