I find it hard to be accepted by hippie communities simply because I don't look and dress like a hippie. I'm a hippie at heart tho and I love the culture and vibes..
A lot of hippies aren't too hip, really. In fact, a vagabond I know avoids dreadies when bumming it because he's had so many bad experiences with them. I think whenever you have a culture that is real ideologically focused - you get a lot of wolves. Think closet homo-republicans and horny priests; but invert it. I'm kinda like you, I guess, cause I hate all the damn hippies on this site, but something keeps bringing me back I guess =P I guess what I'm saying is; if they don't want you, you shouldn't want them, because they aren't what they looked like. Keep on looking and find the places you belong.
Fuck you asshole! Actually since starting dreads I avoid Rasta Colors like the plague. At least nobody has asked me where my Range Rover is parked. C/S, Rev J
i'm not really a hippie but i do like to blaze herbs, listen to live music, camp, not shower, eat well, and enjoy life. what is a hippie exactly because i'm more of a weird yuppie i would think as i'm sitting here on my hitech computer looking at my giant tv lol
Looks like you stumbled upon some "hippiecrites" (hippie - hypocrite)! They're all peace and love but only with fellow hippies... This is surprisingly common, sadly. It reminds me of what a friend used to say: it takes more than dreadlocks, tie-dye shirts and a joint in between your lips to be a real hippie. If you don't have the attitude also, it's just a costume.
What exactly does looking the part really mean? It's your mind, your heart, your attitude to all things around you that's important. The rest is all bollocks !
Exactly, the tie dye, dreads and joint can be a uniform. Most of the real cats I've known hate uniforms. Granted some of them wore army jackets. I just started skateboarding again after 20 years. Some of that uniform has found its way into my "image" so to speak. But for me it is a matter of function over style. The loose baggy clothes don't encumber movement. The shoes are meant to be flexible yet still give support etc. So I guess now I'm becoming a Hippie Skate Punk. C/S, Rev J
Its human nature to want to be accepted or fit in. Im a very kind and thoughful person who tries to do the right thing. I without a doubt never fit into the hippy clicks. I grew up in the streets of Brooklyn, Staten island and New Jersey. without sayin that im a bit street. However i did live in a minivan traveling cross country for a few years me and my rottie. I settled in Breckenridge colorado for a while where i 1st even seen a hippy let alone know what the lifestyle was. I fell in love with the culture and the girls. Fast forward many years, i was a rodie for a well know funk band and all was good.... Got evicted from my place cause i had to big a dog. Well that dogs familia so im out in the street with the dog. Had to move back to NJ, lived in a friends closet for a year-- it sucked. I have treaded through shitty times to prevail, sort of. I have short hair, have to wear a flippin suit sometimes- i say fuck it ,i ball out. french cuffs , cuff links, egyptian cotton shirts. I have to report to SVP's and a bunch of other high level douches. But i learned internally that im a good hearted person, who does not need the acceptence of people just cause i dress the same, slang the same or anything. I b who i b. Only judge you should entertain is your self judgment. Dont get it twisted, contructive critisism and feedback should always be accepted
while "hippie", as far as i understand, goes way beyond fashion, as far as style, "freedom of expression" really should not have limits. isn't it ridiculous to tell someone that popular styles of expression shouldn't dictate their taste, so they must not conform to that style? that's also letting popular style dictate taste. in truth, i think anyone who really understands what free expression means will understand that each person has the right to look however the fuck they want to look, however makes them feel comfortable and good... it's not that hard to just give people chances, and really we all have intuition and we can tune into that, so if someone's going to shut you out from the get go just because you don't have long hair or a tye dye and therefore are not "cool enough", i think they're the ones fooling themselves... so don't bother with those types, there are plenty of people out there who know what it means to be free and open
Then they're not hippie communities - they're posers. Look inward for acceptance and love before you look outward. The only person who needs to accept you is you... once you love yourself, others will love you too. Freedom is the key, boxing yourself to fit in with posers is not freedom. Express yourself, BE YOU.
