While I know this thread might be better suited for the crafts forum, I feel it will get more attention and maybe even a little more creativity over here. For those unfamiliar with the term, lifehacks refers to DIY solutions to life's annoyances, so here's a chance to share your wealth of knowledge on easy, cheap, and smart ways to conquer the little things in life. *You can use salt to absorb a grease spill. Learned this little trick a few months before I lost my job. You just pour it over the spill generously and you can scrape it right up. I can't believe it took 6 years before someone finally told me that, but it was a lifesaver after that. *A hairdresser who used to be one of my regular customers told me that laundry detergent will strip hair dye, permanent or not. I don't know how true this is because I haven't tried it or had any reason to. *More often than not, when deep frying chicken, if it floats (and I mean all of it), it's done. It's always best to break it a little and check and also always advised to make sure its internal temperature has reached 165 degrees F. Now one of the DIY/lifehacks I'm looking for is ideas for flip-flop storage other than hangers in a closet. All I can really find while Googling are little hangers for a closet and I don't have the closet room for anything else.
When drinking from an aluminum can, turn the opening toward you, like when you're drinking, then squeeze with your thumb and forefinger. This will dent the front and back of the can and make it easier to hold and less likely to slip. It also makes it easy to find the opening as it will always be up front when you grip by the dents. And...your can will be the only one with the dents sitting on the table as no one else in the world has ever discovered this little tip. So, easy to find YOUR drink among the others. No charge for that.
Just thought I'd add that broken flip flops can easily be repaired with one of those little plastic things you find on an unopened bag of bread. More bread tack hacks! Some other random hacks I found on the internet.
If you want ice cold beer in 3 minutes, simply place the cans in a pot and fill it with ice and 2 cups of salt and some water. Put the lid on and wait...in 3 minutes you will have ice cold beer.
I saw a dust ruffle for a bed that was actually clear plastic shoe pockets. I think I saw it on Pinterest.
I don't know if this is really a "life hack" more than it is something that I've found helpful. Magic erasers...buy them in bulk and keep them. They've cleaned the grout in my shower (after I've tried EVERYTHING), I use them on my cabinets, fridge, floor, walls. Shit's amazing! Also, if you want a good stain remover - Grease Lightening. Powerful enough to take tar out of carpets, yet gentle enough to remove simple stains from clothes. Every article of clothing that has a stain on it, I spray it down before I throw it in the hamper and after I wash it, the stain is gone. Another trick I've learned - if you get ink on your clothes, spray it with hairspray...it loosens up the ink so that you don't end up with stained clothes.
If you're nostalgic and remember Grapeasaurus Rex Koolaid from the early and mid-90's, all you have to do is mix one part instant lemonade with one part grape Koolaid. You can also use other flavors of Koolaid to flavor lemonade. Cut the top off of a plastic soda bottle with an Exacto knife, instant funnel! Guys, avert your eyes: Ladies, if you have a leak during your period, peroxide does a good job at removing blood stains. Follow by scrubbing with anti-bacterial soap and then wash with a regular load of laundry.
Hard time peeling your boiled eggs? Put some baking soda in the water. The shell peels fast and easy.
