I believe the decision should be left to the individual, even during times of war, but I may be biased because I cannot enter the services on account of being hard-of-hearing. Not that I would want to anyway.
No, because what our armed forces are currently doing has literally nothing at all to do with the 9/11 attacks. They're bumbling around in the desert with their thumbs in their asses accomplishing absolutely nothing.
It is their lives and they should follow their dreams. I want my son to go to college and to focus on learning. My unofficial foster son who lives with me chose to go into the military as a medic and I let him make his own choice. I do worry about him though. I would not be surprised 9/11 was staged by the US president. He had connections with the culprits. It gave him an excuse to go to war. I do not trust my own government. I grew up around people who worked at Space Research corporation and I know there are many shady things US citizens are kept blinded from.
Yes they should serve. To round up the war criminals who used the bullshit of Sept 11 as an excuse to invade other people's countries, and kill over 100x the number of those killed in Sept 11. Once upon a time there were 20 Arabs, who crashed 4 planes into America.(Or was it 3?) There were no flight recorders ever found, but one of the hijacker's pass.ports was found ontop of the rub.ble, fluttering in the breeze. So it was obvbious they were all guilty, and it wasnt an inside job. And there was nice man called Nice George, who never fixed 2 elections with his dad, his brother and his Supreme court friends. George was told "America is under attack", so he kept reading a book to school kids, as is the sensible thing to do. Then a few days later Nice George said "lets blow up some people who wear teatowels on their head, infact why not half a million or so, after all, anyone who disagrees with us must be a terrorist and a Communist, and a danger to America. Infact we can blame it all on this really tall one I used to play with as a kid". And I'll make sure my friends in the press never remind us that my dad called them freedom fighters. Or that it was us who sold them all their weapons of mass destruction in the first place, the same ones that were all destroyed years ago". "But how will everyone go along with that ridiculous idea?", someone asked Nice George "Its easy", Nice George's dad said to Nice George. "Just keep using the same phrases over and over again. You don't even have to put them in sentences. Remember these- support our troops, God bless America, weapons of mass destruction, war on terror, democracy, where were you on 911" "You cant fail" he said. Now 2 young interns overheard all this and said "People aren't stupid, they'll never believe this crap. I know, I read the story, The Emperor's New Clothes". Immediately 2 secret service agents said "shut the fuck up Commies" and dragged them off to Camp X-Ray, where they were never seen again. So they blew up lots of places in the sand, and they lived happily ever after. THE END (until they've decided when to try and blow up Iran)
No fucking way in hell. I shouldn't have to feel any sort of obligation. Being that I am far from a patriot, I would never risk my life for this corrupt, pos country.
Yeah, because at 19 you have been around the block enough times to come to a conclusion like that. Keep fighting the man.
I am not American, but I think it is beyond silly that people actually think that it would be okay to serve in the military. I, for one, do not want to die for or serve an abritrary line we call border. Physically we evolved beyond ants, but it seems that intellectually we have regressed past single celled organisms. People need to wake up and stop being slaves and focus on things that actually matter.
I think young adults can only benefit from serving in the military or some sort of pubic works program.
We do have some programs that put young offenders in a boot camp type setting, and I wouldn't go any further than that. The military isn't for everyone. Even people that go in thinking they can survive don't. During in-processing you'd see some people wearing orange vests because they were on "suicide watch" I think everyone's taxes would raise just so they could afford all the orange vests they'd need for an undertaking like this. It wouldn't work out in such a large country like this.
Another option would be for people to be required to serve a non-military position for their country if the military option is not suitable.
If you look at it, it's kinda going to a back handed requirement already. The financial benefits for college if you serve. The jump to the top on the pile of applicants if you are applying for a federal job. And even private companies using military service as a plus when looking at new applicants.
Thus he should not complain and just serve at least a year?? I see your point comparing these governments but that the country you live in is better where it comes to corruption, living standards etc. etc. should not imply it is worth or deserving of joining the military and perhaps send on a cause you don't want to partake in... Damn, this is so obvious to me. And people that use the relative freedom and luxuries your country has as an excuse to partake in it's atrocities seem to have a distorted view of freedom to me. Despite how bad another country is and how good your own we have always the right to talk shit about our governments and to refuse to join stuff that is not for us.
