the LSD subforum seems to generate a lot of responses, so i'm posting here, but it's more a general psychedelic question... i've come across a few different sources which suggest that the older tricyclics (amitriptyline, impiramine, nortriptyline, etc) have a potentiating effect on psychedelics i'm not entirely clear on the mechanism of action of some of these medications, some seem to act strongly on serotonin and norepinephrine and some seem to act more on norepinephrine and only slightly on serotonin (like nortriptyline for example), but most of them have pretty strong anticholinergic effects, especially as the dose increases whether or not the potentiation is a positive thing, i don't know, i haven't found much anecdotal evidence does anyone know the mechanism behind the interaction/have any experience they can share, whether personal or about someone they know/knew?
I wouldn't touch tricyclics with a ten foot pole and neither should you, especially not for something as silly as potentiating LSD. Grab some more LSD, or some piracetam.
thanks for the useful input i never said it was *for* potentiating LSD i'm wondering if anyone has anecdotal reports to share about people taking a triyclic daily under medical supervision, who went ahead and took a psychedelic
If it affects same receptors then probably it isn't a good idea. There is great risk for serotonin syndrome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serotonin_syndrome
