A little background information: I started feeling pain on/in one of my teeth located in the bottom right of my mouth. It's not intensive pain, not even moderate; However, there is a little pain and it's very uncomfortable. I decided to visit a dentist and she could not find what's wrong with my tooth:(. At first, she suggested that it might be a cavity stuck between my tooth that hurts and the one behind it and then told me she has to remove the tooth behind the tooth that hurts in order to see if that's the problem:confused:. This has gotten me anxious because I feel she does not know what is she doing. In addition, she prescribed me with some tablets for the tooth pain.

Also, she wrote on a paper that I need to have an extraction of my wisdom tooth. At this point and time, I think I will go see another dentist to get a second opinion. Has anyone had tooth pain and if you can share your experience with me? I'm a smoker and brush my teeth only during the day so maybe that is the cause.

    Advice? Tips?

what, as opposed to waking up in the middle of the night to do it?

i don't think i've ever had significant tooth pain. this does sound slightly fishy to me though. seems like she could use xrays or something to see if there's a hole between your teeth. and if not, why not take out the tooth with the problem, instead of the perfectly fine tooth next to the one with the problem just on the off chance that's what's making the other tooth hurt? but then, i'm no dentist, so don't put too much stock into what i say on the matter.

Cavities between teeth show up on x-rays.

You don't need a panoramic x-ray. Just the "bite wing" x-ray for the area involved.

Watch out for dentists. I would definitely go for another opinion. In my town there is only one clinic that takes my medical. I had an infected tooth last summer. I let them remove it. It is the first tooth I ever lost. They wanted to remove all of my teeth even though they were not loose, had no cavities, and only because I had bleeding gums, I told them, "No"! I have not regretted it. When I was in the hospital for the panniculitis the antibiotics cured the bleeding gums. If I had listened to the Dentist I would have made a big mistake.

Ever since my gums started bleeding and now that they quit bleeding, I floss after every meal and I brush a few times a day. They do not suffer any pain. When they do get sore I have used synsodine type toothpastes. Usually pain without a cavity is due to exposed roots. The toothpaste for sensitive teeth help that.

Enamel strengthening toothpaste also helps save teeth that are trying to go rogue. Look for toothpaste with calcium in the ingredients. I use Arm & Hammer. I chipped my tooth a couple of years ago and have been using that toothpaste the whole time and have yet to have any problems with it. I also used to have super sensitive teeth but since I've started using that toothpaste, I find myself being able to eat cold things with a lot more ease. It costs a little more than most toothpastes, but if you have dental issues, it's completely worth it.
