does anybody have any experience with, or even indulges as a hobby in, savoury smokin'?

i.e. smoking cigars or pipes (without inhaling) purely for the taste? rather than smoking cigarettes habitually for the nicotine (and maybe taste if you fork out for high-end rolling baccy)

i recently quit smoking (which has gone very well) , and in a few months, once i'm confident that doing so won't cause me to relapse, i intend to give savoury smoking a go (of the pipe variety). me and habitual smoking have reached something of an impass, and dragging smoke into my lungs isnt seeming like a great option any more. but smoking as a form of recreation, and savouring the experience and appreciating the nuances of flavour without endangering my health to such a great extent has always been fairly attractive to me.

my grandad used to smoke a pipe, and i always thought the tobacco he used made cigarette smoke smell of absolute arse.

anyone have any experience with this?

I have not had one in a long time but my go to has always been this cigar. Smooth, nice burn. A nice shot of Glenfiddich neat to accompany it and the evening is complete. :)

Pipe smoking is very nice. There is a pipe shop next to close to where I live. Usually once a week I go down there to have a cigar and a pipe. My advice would be to start off with a very aromatic tobacco although I am not sure how easy that would be in England. English blends are typically very strong. I think I read one time that in England at one point, it was against the law to mix anything other than tobacco in pipe blends.
