I want to travel

I've never done it before but I hope your hear me out. I want to travel, if it means I have to hitch hike and bum money I will. I want to see things though. I want to be outside more and just go with people like me, out of the city. I want to be with people that wont look at me funny when I say I Dont eat meet, Or people like my family who when I say im gay try to explain why the bible says im wrong. I just want to go and share happiness and I wont say find myself but at least get to try. Because for the last few years its been school and internet and I feel lazy and bad so much. I want to be outside away from the fast food and my family. I love them but I want to find something. I Dont know what but I feel like im missing something.

I've asked a few people but they all say im too young or its a phase and that if they take me i'll just want to leave. Maybe but I've felt this way for years. Im willing to work, I cant do much, but im good at arts and writing and im great with kids. I help out and pull my weight I just wish some one would give me the chance. Please if you travel and your coming my way pick me up. Im just to scared to do it alone but I really do want to go... :daisy:

 

No need to be scared, just do what you feel like doing. Take the step to free yourself from your prison and experience the world. I travelled for many years myself and at first it seemed a bit scary and overwhelming, but soon you'll find it's the easiest thing to do. Live your life!

 

I thought about going myself but Im scared I wont know where to go or how to go anywhere. I don't know how to do much other then take care of others like cooking or cleaning or working with kids. I want to go I just want someone else whos willing to come with even if its one person. Though none of my friends or family would even consider it.

 

Depends what you want to do, do you want to experience and learn new things, meet new people, see the world etc. or do you want to run away from your current life?
If it's the latter there are other ways than running away. If it's the former, you shouldn't really have any trouble with starting out alone. In my experience you meet many likeminded souls on the road.

 

No I don't want to run away. I may not like my family all the time but I do love them. I just want to explore. To get away from the city and see whats out there. I thought about just packing up one night then the next day just leaving. But my problem is when I take out my back pack I start to think. I don't know what to take and where to go to. I don't know where I sleep and I rather not be arrested for sleeping in the woods. I don't know what i should even take. If I did just leave what is your tip?

 

Take as little as possible. I suggest pack your backpack, then dump half the stuff you packed. Pack it again and dump half of the stuff you packed again.
Now you are still left with way more than you need.

Depending on the climate you need to pack clothes, I used to travel for years with just a pair of pants, two pairs of shorts, a few shirts, underwear, a pair of sandals, some toiletry and a guitar. This was in Asia where the climate was hot enough to travel with nearly no clothes. Also some books are always good to bring along. And when you done reading you might be able to exchange them for other books.

Just reiterating; you hardly need to bring any stuff, the more you take the bigger the burden.

 

looking at a map might be a start. And remember it's not all going to be fun. You will be cold and wet at times. If you don't have money to take with you will get hungry.

OK, but where do I stay as im doing this. I thought of just traveling before but someone told me your not aloud to just sleep anywhere and your not aloud to go some places because the cops will arrest you? Is that true?

 

I never travelled in the USA, so I have no clue about the rules and how strictly they enforce them. I usually stayed in cheap hostels, sometimes as cheap as a dollar a night. Or took a lightweight tent and just put it up anywhere in nature, never seen a cop in my life at the places I camped. Also slept under the stars or made a little shelter. If you plan to do that it's good to bring a small hammock too.

And indeed, like Jo said, it's not always going to be fun.

 

Yea I figured it wouldn't be fun. I have about 50 dollars I've saved up to start but i know that wont be much. Im hoping to walk, I want to get healthy and I know walking I can take my time and do that. I just wonder if there's places I can stop by if I do travel.

Well I was able to work out with my parents to the point they be OK with me traveling but It wasn't easy. The agreements were I have to take my phone and computer with me as my mom wants to not only talk to me but see me on Skype every few days. I have to visit her on the major holidays and her birthday. I was able to talk her away from making me take a car but I have to have a tent and she's making me take money and set up a account so she can give a little money every month so that I will eat and have cash if I need it. But thing I can't get her to agree on is going alone. Both my parent's agree its too unsafe for a girl to travel alone. =/ I like to think that there's good in everyone and that there being silly that the media makes it worse then it is. But The wont agree. So that's where I am. I will have my tent and am willing to help out now I just need a group of travel buddies at least 2 other people to go with me.

My parent's have agreed after maybe a year of traveling with a group I could go alone but my mom wants me to take a gun if I do that and well I hate guns so I doubt I'll every do that. I was thinking of traveling with people that may be new at traveling themselves. I figure that im not the only 18 year old wanting to travel and met new people. So If you have a group already or would like to start one with me please reply. I want to try new foods mostly organic and grown food. I'll be getting my tent and plan to be camping in it. The big thing is I like to leave in Early June or July at the latest. I like to go around then. I don't know where I will go, If I join a group I guess I'll just follow and if I make one then I like to go towards California. I have always wanted to see the beach. ^-^

Yea My parents weren't big on the idea at first but I think once The realized I was going do it anyways they felt it was better to agree and just let me go with a few conditions. I don't plan to take to much on me but mostly I want to see people and go new places. Im only taking enough money for food and basic's witch my parents insist on. Other then that I may sell a few of my art works but mostly I'll be writing and drawing and just traveling to enjoy myself. If you want to join me im always happy to have another with me. Hey there, I just made a post on here almost exactly the same as you. I'm 18 as well and know EXACTLY how you feel. I don't live close to you, but if you ever found a way to British Columbia, or me to Arizona, I'd go adventuring with you I feel as if this is all very odd to write to strangers... but honestly I am just as desperate to get away.

You see when you read what I mean. I just want to make sure that everyone that comes along wont quit after a week or something. If you guys are desperate, why not just do it?
It took me a while, but one day I simply didn't care and just left and I had one of the best times traveling. Once you actually do it, it's this amazing feeling of freedom. Just need to commit, trust me when I say this. I am nineteen going on twenty and I know that itch you guys are having and I still have it to this day, but sooner or later you'll come to find out that traveling, especially if you're by yourself, is not all that great. Only if you have at least one person with you, you will be fine I am sure of it!
And hey I had to keep in contact with my folks too, I did for the first couple days and then I lost my phone. And it was even better, cause it was still a drag, I mean, if you want the full hippie experience, I'd leave the laptop behind, cause it's just extra weight. Just bring with you what you LIKE REALLY NEED and that includes: some clothing, some grub, a blanket or sleeping bag (sleeping bags are way better), and some good books and go out there with an open mind. Just don't be too naive, I was and some people will take advantage of you. I'm not tryna crush your high or anything, it's just the truth from a brother to a sister, I'm just trying to look out for you... So be easy and happy traveling

I've already set my date and I am just going to go even if I start by myself. I hope and plan to met others on the way but if not Then at June I'll take off and go alone with myself. I thought of leaving my computer and phone but the thing is I'm a gamer. I love the animals, nature, and the earth but I also love my video games and little library I have made on my computer. It kinda sucks because I feel like I'm stuck in between to things. I've been told I cant be a real hippie if I love to game and I've been told I cant be a gamer if I want to be outside. All I know Is I love both and I wouldn't be happy without either so I got to take my computer. I have already made a set list of what I'll take and how I'm getting ready. Don't worry I'm not sure if I have a high per say. But I know this is something I want and I cant be talked out of so its good to hear the truth. Some people I have asked only tell me the plus sides of traveling and I want to hear it all even if its not all rainbow and sunshine. ^-^
