Is there less chance of catching something from anal sex that is unprotected than vaginal sex that is unprotected??

There is actually more chance of catching something, because of the little tears of the skin during anal. It's why AIDS was a stereotypical "gay man disease" for so long.

Absolutely. Anal is far more risky than vaginal sex. However bothy carry risks and should be treated as such. Practising safe sex is a must until you are certain of you and your partners health.

As DaisyMae said, it is more risky than vaginal because the tissue tears easily up there, allowing more blood/fluid transfer to the blood stream. The risk, I believe, is greater for the woman/receiver, especially if the giver ejaculates up there, since the cum can go directly into the blood stream through tears in the tissue, so if that person has HIV, it is almost certain to be transferred. If you are comfortable with the risks, or know everyone is STD free, then you wont get anything if you dont use protection. But you can reduce the risk drastically by using a condom, or if you dont, pulling out and not ejaculating up there. Someone correct me if anything is wrong here...not a medical expert, just stating my understanding.

Actually, pre-cum can carry HIV, too, so any penetration without a condom is risky. And it's the virus itself getting into the bloodstream, not the cum. Semen itself doesn't really enter the bloodstream per se, but the viruses and bacteria present in semen can enter the bloodstream via the mechanism you describe.

Ah ok, thanks for the clarification. Either way, People should properly understand the risks and weigh them against things they enjoy doing and are comfortable with. There are a lot of blanket statements made on these boards like "unprotected anal sex = AIDS" which is clearly not the case.
