I don´t know too much about his life, I´m only into music stuff which I know maybe for a year. Then "Cocaine Blues" was first song I heard from him and I was listening to it whole long day again.
Cocaine Blues is a very good song. I think the first song by him I heard was Place to Be or Been Smoking Too Long. I think my favorite is Things Behind the Sun.
Never sing for my supper I never help my neighbour Never do what is proper Or my fair share of labour I'm just a poor boy!
I discovered Nick's work about a year or two ago - they played 'River Man' on XFM, never been the same since https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6zCmCIsoAE
Words can't do justice in expression for my love of the somber, peaceful and heart-wrenching sounds of Nick Drake and his often over-looked brilliance... He has to be one of the best folk singers that has ever existed.
:2thumbsup: I've long been a fan of Nick Drake, who's life was short & tragic but his music is still in our hearts... R.I.P. Nick eace:  eace:
I also love Nick.I used to busk "Northern Sky" on the London underground before busking became legal and formalized.(Now you have to audition and get given a spot and allocated times.) I just approximated the chords because "Northern Sky" is written in an odd tuning. If only people appreciated Nick in his lifetime as much as they do now he would likely still be with us today.Unfortunately he was a shy and infrequent live performer and that may have been why he didn't get the exposure his music needed for him to have been more successful in his own time.
Also,if you like Nick Drake, you might also like John Martyn who was a contemporary of Nick's.They were very good friends and were both influenced by similar folk and blues traditions.John had considerable success and was a well kept secret in the music business to some extent.John unfortunately died a couple of years ago but he has left behind a considerable musical legacy and was a great live performer.
I saw John Martyn live in Concert many times, time back... Yet another great, sadly missed but his music still lives on :sunny: R.I.P. John eace:
Unfortunately I never got to see John live, but I've watched his performances many times on youtube. My friend Nick knew John quite well as he made a documentary film about him that sadly never got completed as things got a bit chaotic due to some crazy behavior I think.
