Jack Kerouac, William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Joyce Johnson,... I recently watched movie On the road and I became really fascinated with the whole scene. I'm currently waiting on my books by Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs to arrive and I was wondering if any of you read some of their stuff and what did you think?
I love "on the road". Really enjoyed it and have reread it so many times! I found it really inspirational, I hope you find it amazing too! I also love Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs. I read it years ago and didn't enjoy it, tried again about a year ago and liked it. Definitely go into it with an open mind and stick with it. It's really good.
Burroughs later work, esp the trilogy cities of the red night, place of dead roads, the western lands, is more accessible than naked lunch, although that is a work of genius. I love Burroughs. Also Allen Ginsberg is a major beat figure not to be overlooked..
I would definitely check out Richard Brautigan, who was described as "The last of the beats".He was an amazing writer. So funny, yet so heartfelt.
Kerouacs books are amazing. I recently bought Junky by Burroughs but haven't read it yet. As for Ginsberg, he's excellent.
