I'd rather live in timelessness. I can't think of any reason why I'd want to turn the clock back on...

The problem is,if time travel were genuinely available,it isn't only the 'good' guys who would utilise it.
In fact,it would be specifically the 'good' guys that found themselves locked out and unable to access it. [for 'guys' read 'people']

So,knowing the technology would also be available to some of the horrific terrorists/bigots/deviants/war mongers [at this point add your own specific detested type of sub-human] among us in what we know as 'today',perhaps it's just as well we DON'T unlock the secret.

Meh... Still be pretty cool.. I can think of a LOT of things you could do with it, and a LOT of ways you could help people.

For example, stop time for those with diseases that cannot be cured right now, and only start it for them again when a cure has been found. so it could be really useful.

Or, stopping time while they developed international space travel, or stopping time for them and then restarting it when they got to their destination (say 700 years later).

All sorts of non-violent, non-war related uses...

Only thing that could get tricky is how some people use it of course...

But want a 4 day weekend? simply stop the clock for yourself, and restart it when you want. etc etc.

You should read Douglas Adams. His perception of time was pretty eye-opening to me. I don't agree with all his thoughts on life, but he had some good ideas about how time works.
Read the whole trilogy which becomes more than that...you'll get it as you go! -grins- then read out of the silent planetand that hideous strength.

Larry Niven is a good way to learn about physics and time travel. He studied at Cal Tech and his vision is phenomenal if you don't mind alien sex. Far out and very intelligent. Seriously - you'll understand the cosmos and time better for it!

If time and space are connected as some kind of unbreakable continum, I don't see how one part of it can be changed without affecting the whole.

Also, if time stops, wouldn't motion be impossible? I'd think motion would stop also.

Is time a causal power or merely an effect of the big bang?

I've always know time travel was possible, but as I got older I realized that the amount of energy needed to break the fabric of space and time would literally destroy the earth in the present state when you travelled, leaving nothing to come back to and nothing to go forward to.

    Just my theory.

David Anderson says that time travel is possible and that many governments are using the technology right now. He says that most of the scientist involved believe the public needs to be told about it.

He holds patents on several devices right now. One is for preserving human organs.

The trouble with time trouble is people try to do it physically. There may be a way to do it in the astral world but i doubt there will ever be physical time travel. But I do love Dr. Who. I'd love to travel around in his spaceship. ;-)

It's been done. Believe me, if you had endless amounts of money being funneled into secret budgets you'd stumble upon time travel too. Anyone ever listen to any of Art Bell's Time Traveler Lines? They're hysterical if you want to hear weird people pretending to be travelers.

I was raised by a scientist and engineer. He focused the earlier part of his life on space travel. He even worked at Rocketdine in California in the 1960's. I doubt it has really been done with a machine. It would be nice to be wrong.

Time travel for now is just fiction, but i love the idea of being able to travel through time and maybe alter history a bit :D

Hmm this topic got me to sign up. Good for you guys. So to weigh in abit on this we do know that time travel is possible but not at any scale we currently hve access to. Also its good to note as we know it time travel is only possibl forwards. not backwards. So lets dive into it abit. One of the best known laws of nature is that we cn not surpass the speed of light. Nothing can for that matter. As things approach the speed of light. Time begins to slow down for these individuals. All well and good but how do we know this? You may have heard of the LHC out in switzerland. Its purose is to accelerate particles to the speed of light and we watch th crash into each other and see what happens as they explode at those speed. But why do we watch them at those speeds? Because we are abl to observe them for much longer as time slows down. If you are interested in this seriously Steven Hawking has a show yu can find on netflix called "into the universe with steven hawking" one episode is specifically about time travel and how we know its possible. Its not crazy crackpot theories its real stuff.

I think of time like a time line. If traveling through time is possible, it breaks off what ever point you visit and creates a separate time line so the changes are not seen in the original, but in the new time line you created. this is my opinion.

Time very well could be an illusion, and there may be nothing to "travel" in. In my limited understanding of physics, the only process in the universe that even accounts for moving "forward in time" is entropy, and even that can be reversed in some cases. Hell, some of the mind-blowing stuff coming from the quantum physics field may even show that space is an illusion too. What we call "spacetime" may just be our way of making sense of the universe.

I guess no one here has heard of the theory of relativity. Travel to the future has already been achieved, albeit on a nano scale. If we could approach the speed of light, travel to the distant future would be possible.

The earth spins in space and time, it rotates around the sun, which is rotating around the milky way which is expanding through the universe.

Now you want to go back to Jan.28, 1985. Where was the milky way then, the sun, and the earth. Time travel is an impossibility for a lot of reasons but mainly because our positions are not fixed. You are 99.9999999999% likely to appear in the vacuum of space.

My ex husband reminded me of a situation where we lost several hours during a drive that always took us 45 minutes. It was a foggy night which might have accounted for some of it. My ex always thought we were abducted by aliens but I always thought it was some kind of weird time warp. I remember the whole car ride so that is why I am sure it was not an abduction. We both remember turning off of highway 61 to get on county road 4 but we found ourselves suddenly back on highway 61 in the town of Barnum. Was it a weird time warp thing who knows? All I know is it was one of the spookiest nights I ever had and neither of us were on drugs or alcohol. When we made it home it felt like it had been a 45 minute drive but we lost 6 hours.

Time travel is impossible. If it is possible then why hasn't anyone from the future come back to visit us? My biology teacher told me I should study philosophy because I am always coming out with things like this, which is doubly strange because his name is Phil.

We can only travel forward not backwards.do some research into the lhc. Slowing time is how we found the higgs
