Hello everyone! Buon giorno! I am a lover of traditional Italian music. I just purchased a Fender Sunburst Mandolin model FM - 53S SB. Also, I have the International Passport Series of The Great Italian Songbook, Arranged and Edited by Dan Fox, Author Carl Fischer (anyone know this songbook?). Anyway, my problema is, I do not know how to play this mandolino. I would like to learn. All the teachers of mandolin in my area want to teach me Bluegrass music, which by the way is very nice, but, I love and want to learn traditional Italian music. All suggestions will be appreciated. Grazie!! Ciao, Arrivedercci
Well.. the thing is, people don't play Italian stuff on mandolin in the US. I don't like teachers anyway. It's a lot better to just buy books and listen to the music and learn to play it yourself. I play some mandolin, but as you said, more of the bluegrass genre, though it isn't too hard to get those mediterranean sounds. F style mandolins are more of a bluegrass genre thing... most of the people I've seen playing Italian styled stuff use A style or bowl back/potato bug mandolins... not saying you can't use an F Style.
Grazie Orsino2, Good advise, I think I will start to teach myself. BTW, my mandolino is a flat A style. Ciao.
the strings go GDAE just do alot of appegios, and move around the fret board. 1st things first play it get youre fingers groovin.. mando
I've got 2 mandos and play just about any kind of music. One is a bowl back made in Italy and the other is and A style. Just do what you want to do. As you mess around a little bit you get the feel of things and can go from there. Do what feels good to you.
