Link The guy assigned to write it, this Arnt, is best known for Toy Story 3 and Brave, so looks like it will be very Disneyified
I'm not impressed with what he's done with Star Trek, but I'll remain openminded. I'm expecting the new film/s to be directed more towards the younger audience..we'll see
What does Disneyified mean? Fox has Fox News, Glee, The Simpsons and The Following. Disney produceed Tron. I'm sure there are other e.gs of Disney produced films with an adult theme. Don't Disney own Mirimax? I'm sure Disney can produce something that isn't aimed at kids. Abrams can't do any worse than Lucas did in his last three efforts.
lucas made the right decision (and giving the money to charity was, of course, a nice gesture). although i've grown to massively dislike the star wars franchise over the years, there's still a universe there in which good stories can be told, so i'll keep an open mind. Abrams is a good director, but hopefully he'll not splash lens flare effects over everything like he did in star trek, that got distracting quick. here's hoping he also, where possible, relies on physical sets and props rather than cg. if by disneyfied you mean simple but effective storytelling but also with an emphasis on commercial success and marketing toys and merchandise then at least it will be staying true to the spirit of the franchise. plus, they made avengers. in fact, i was hoping that they might be able to attach whedon to the project, but thats probably too much to ask.
I got no clue what this guy can do to it so I will reserve my verdict until I have seen the result. Have to admit I don't have high hopes that I will ever get as excited again for a Star wars movie as in the past but yeah we'll see.
Pixar was originally a division of Lucasfilm and eventually was taken over by Steve Jobs. In 2006 it was sold to Disney. Now Lucasfilm will be run by Pixar ... which is owned by Disney.
I would be happy about this, but honestly I've really been burnt out by Star Wars movies. The Prequel trilogy started tiring me of the franchise, then the numerous asinine edits of the Original trilogy put a bow on it. If it gets good reviews and there's good word of mouth, I'll probably look out for it when it comes out on DVD.
