I've seen a few threads about them, and I'm wondering what album I should "start" with if I'm going to listen to their music... Any suggestions anyone??
if you really wanna get into phish, i would recomend listening to whatever you would like to from them, i really started with some of the stuff off "Junta" the first studio album, but truly, their shows are prob. the best for the feel. it depends on what your musical tastes are first. Before i discovered phish, i listend to only a few songs, off Hoist, like down with disease, and some stuff like waste, some stuff you could find like more rock, more mellow, more bluegrassy, to suit your taste, and after u have a feeling of how their style you can delve into their overall amazing-ness. any more q's id be happy to answer!
I think to really get into Phish you should start with Farmhouse or Billy Breathes, which, in my opinion, are much more radio and listener friendly. After a while you begin to recognize their musical genius...when you are at that point, I recommend Junta and Picture of Nectar. Some of their music in the latter albums require a desire to like Phish.
No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Phish is by far the worst nonrap group to ever play music!!!!!!!!! No
pfft I can think of plenty of worse non-rap groups than phish. creed, aerosmith, linkin park, nickelback, three doors down, limp bizkit, good charlotte, simple plan, blink 182, new found glory.......... I could keep going but Im growing tired.
Phish is the worst!!! I guess it's just a very (what's the word, fuck) a very....... fuck umm............. unique....... naw that's not the right word........ very well....... you either like 'em or you don't, you know what I mean
In my opinion, i love phish! They are not the greatest, but as jam bands go, you cant get much better. Love em or hate em, who cares, im still gonna listen to them
Seems like everybody who's just getting into phish absolutely adores "Sample in a Jar" well... even the die-hard phish coneseurs dig that one I guess. I started off with the album "Story of the Ghost" myself and I was hooked. Then I went to a few live shows, all with Harpua in them, my personal fav being the one where they covered Dark Side of The Moon in it's entirity... then I think it was Farmhouse, then Billy Breathes... then Picture of Nectar I belive. It was kind of odd reading that people hate phish... I honestly haven't met too many people outside of your average high school wanna-be rocker or rapper that doesn't like even a little phish. YAY for phish!
I think Hoist and Billy Breathes are good starters, the latter being the first Phish I ever heard. Some people really seem to hate Phish, so if it's not your thing, no harm done, but if you start like 'em, do get into the live recordings. There are plenty out there.
My high school sucks...only 4 people and my music teacher like phish that i know of...everyone else hasnt really heard of em, i dont belong here but YAY for phish indeed!!!
The best Phish albums to buy are the series of live albums they released not too long ago. You ought to get 10/31/96 and 7/15/98. The 6/22/94 has some pretty kind moments as well. How good are Phish? Second only to the Dead. I nicknamed Phish the "Diet Grateful Dead." Edit: Much like the Dead, their live material kicks ass over the studio.
better than a kick to the head. use furthernet and get em free, purchase nothing till you love the band then buy whatever catches your fancy.
phish is great and when you have seen them plzy live you know what i mean they are like the best band to listen to wiht their sometimes wacky lyrics they can get you in the mood for anything
just got the phish-it dvd for xmas... cant wait to check it out.... I'm really hoping theres some farewell tour dvd in the future... I'd really like to see what I experienced.. on second thought.. maybe its good that its a big psychedelic blur of dejavu & trey sending telepathic guitar vibrations to me through the crowd.. heh i didnt even have my eyes open for most of it.. but trust me.. I still saw it... especially the sound exploding off of treys strings and the glow around him..through the water in the sky even tho the beatles are my favorite band.. me playing guitar has been most influenced by phish.. i just can not listen to phish and not feel the music throughout my whole body... especially if I listen to music from the 04 tour i just wish I had got into them 10 yrs ago
phish is the best thing that's ever happened to my ear drums. (if that answers your questions) i just burned shit, then went to used cd places and got all their shit. then started trading (and not many people hate them) - Kim
He he he....I'll have to jump on this bandwagon... I'm a Deadhead born and raised, but Phish is still pretty kickass. Personally, my fave studio is Lawn Boy and live stuff is always the shit. Like the Dead, live is just like diamonds compared to the studio stuff. Either way, they're sick!
