That is definitely a man making his own way in the world! He's doing the sensible thing. When the escalator is so overcrowded it is far easier to use the stairs!
I see it as someone with a willingness to persevere - the people on the escalator are irrelevant. I see it as a guy who lost his leg not wanting to give in to his disability and not let the stairs conquer him... perhaps looking to keep his remaining leg fit by excercising it well.
i just see a bunch of people going out of their way to give the appearance of being as lazy as possible. it happens all the time, like when someone puts a dirty bowl in the sink and instead of taking 2 seconds to rinse it now, they let it get crusty so it takes 10 minutes to wash it later. or when someone spends 10 minutes driving around a parking lot trying to find a parking space that will let them walk 20 feet less than the parking space that was there all along. i really don't understand the mindset. the guy taking the stairs is pretty much irrelevant to me. there's always someone who will do the thing that isn't completely stupid; he's just that guy.
I see it as it never hurts to walk along side someone just to be there and it also never hurts to ask them if you may help them with something. You could have a man there with all his limbs and he may still be broken inside and not one person will ask him if he needs help with anything
