Me too, and it annoyed me for a long time that others accepted that concept for granted and when confronting you could find out they didn't give it as much thought as I. Happily I am all past that though I wish I could accept it so easily and without doubt. Alas, it is not the case. Well, I don't think it works like this (God's omnipotent powers I mean). Hence why I have nowadays more trouble with atheists that take the concept of the almighty God too literally (often more than the most devoted christian) when they proclaim to don't even believe in it than with naive and/or all accepting christians.
It's true, it's difficult to even prove Jesus existed. Outside of Christian text there is almost no mention of him, only one or two times anywhere else. In my opinion his true message has been perverted for the sake of men controlling other men. Prior to the 6th century Christianity was an oral tradition. But at that time the Catholic church added and took away allot of stories to create a religion that allowed them to be figure heads. Allot of people think John was actually written by John for example as he stood there and saw it happen. This is not the case, take for example the Dead Sea Scrolls, texts that discuss allot not mentioned in the bible yet even to this day we don't know what to do with them. The true message of Jesus was more like Buddhism. I am a man but I am nothing you can not be. But to modern Christians to suggest this is blasphemy. No, Jesus is a god and I must please him by worshiping him so he will reward me, I can not be god. The truth is because you are from god, you therefore are god. If he was a man, there is no need for things like the Vatacin to decide for me what I must do. In other words there is no institution for men to manipulate other men. The whole story of a godly being born through an earthly virgin worm predates the period of the new testament and was repeated hundreds of times in the old world. There were also dozens of men walking around with the same story of, I am from god while he was alive. His was just the story that survived. But That whole element has been added on to confuse you. After all a man will only live once, even a man who was "awake" as Buddha would have said. The idea of Hell was added in the middle ages as well once again to use fear to control you. Would Jesus really agree with the vatacin in their palace telling people it is better to die of AIDS then use a condom? I could believe in a actual Jesus, but I will never support the nasty one put forth so people will fear him and obey men. I did not mean to offend anyone. Christians are for the most part good people, and many of the ten commandments are valid. I just suggest anyone do some research and understand how men will use religion to deceive you.
Put that way, I agree with much of what you say. Unfortunately, the idea of hell shows up in vivid detail in the gospel of Matthew. It was a doctrine of late Judaism, probably of Persian origin. When I say I'm a Christian, I mean that I accept the central message of Jesus: unconditional love for everybody, including the outcasts and dregs of society and looking out for the poor. The atonement idea was never taught by Jesus but was added mainly by Paul who never met Jesus in the flesh. As a meme, it was a big success, but in my opinion got Christianity off the tracks and focused attention on believing unbelievable doctrines instead of the teachings and example of Jesus.
___ hell or heaven I remember one time I saw a guy wearing a Tshirt that said 'Jack and Jill went up to Hill'
