The best way to stop the mass killings with guns, is to make bullets $5,000.00 each. The idea is to make it too expensive and too much hassle. You don't have to make ALL bullets that expensive, just the ones used in assault weapons. With the resistance of the gun lobby, and the way the own the GOP, Obama is going to have to use executive orders to go over congress' heads. Then it will have to go through the SCOTUS, which could take years.
The fascist violent minority needs to wake up and smell the coffee. This country is STILL a majority rule democracy. The majority has had it with mass murders with assault weapons that are good for nothing but killing large numbers of people. We are fed up with the right wing paranoia. If you're so scared that government is out to get you, get the hell out! We don't want you turning this country into another Afghanistan, where innocent people are constantly murdered every day. Go live there, and take your assault weapons with you.
It also appears to me that some people who commit these heinous crimes use weapons of their parents or other family members, clearly those weapons need to be secured in gun safes and the laws need to include those changes, I am specifically speaking of the military style weapons.
No it isn't, nor has it ever been. We are a Republic of laws and not a democracy of mob rule, where the rights of the minority will always be protected against the will of the majority. Ban assault weapons and innocent people will still be murdered every day in this country, as assault weapons are the murder's weapon of choice. In 2011 just over 300 people were killed with rifles. That is all rifles, not just assault rifles. Twice as many people were killed with by people using their hands. Something like 6 more were killed using knives and other cutting devices.
So hundreds of years of slavery and women's fight for equal rights proved that the majority did not rule over the minority? Heck, even the current need for same-sex marriage proves how the majority who are against it get to say what happens.
Hey, I never said our track record was spotless. That said, my point to counter rjhangover stands; we are not a majority rule democracy. Just because the majority may want something doesn't mean it is going to happen.
That doesn't mean majority rules here, in the country. Presidents can, and have been, elected to office without winning the popular vote. It is all perfectly legal and exactly the way things are intended to be in this country. Nice to know you support mob rule where, as long as you have the greater numbers, you'll get what you want. A mob is just as capable of being fascist as an individual. Fascist laws? The individual right to own firearms, to include so-called "assault weapons", isn't just a law, it is constitutional right just as enshrined as the right we have to say what we want, worship as we want, and so on. Really? Are you for the removal of hand guns from civilian hands as well?
For the last time, you stupid ignorant liberals....guns dont kill anything, PEOPLE do! Too ignorant to understand that right. So ban cars, trucks, baseballs, baseball bats, knives, etc. Where was the outcry when the school bus driver drove 20 elementary kids off a bridge into a ravine and killed them all? He was drunk! Do we need to ban school buses?, alcohol? Those who choose to ignore history are doomed to repeat it. How many mass shootings to we have in one year? Enough to ban guns? How many people are killed in car wrecks each year, enough to ban cars? For the last time, its my freekin right to carry a gun to protect myself from stupid ignorant liberals, the 2nd amendment says so, and even obamanation is not going to change that.
Does anybody even have a clue what the phrase "well-regulated militia" means in modern times? Looking at the second half of the statement, without considering the first part, it implies that not even those declared criminally insane could legally be denied the right to own a machine gun or piece of field artillery. This amendment was poorly worded; not one of Jefferson's better efforts. It can be interpreted to mean just about anything. At the moment, all that seems to matter is the interests of the gun manufacturers that fund the National Rifle Association. Once again, the common sense reasoning of ordinary people seems to be left out of the equation. The majority of Americans are in favor of a variety of reasonable gun restrictions that may never be voted on by the US House. We have spent more than 200 years trying to address every gun problem with more guns. How is that working out for us? Anybody honestly think it's a success story?
