You don't have to say where you live, but I'd like to hear about your towns. What's cool about it? What puts it on the map? We used to have the largest lens manufacturing plant in the world here...but they closed their doors about 20 years ago. According to some NY Times specialist, if 9/11 happened 50 years prior, we woulda been a target because of the hazardous material that could explode in there. We have some cool old buildings and a neat history here. Everything from scandals to murders to bastard children. I enjoy reading up and looking at pictures of my town. I'm thinking about going around and taking pictures of all the cool buildings once I get a decent camera.
I do not feel like describing anything, so I will simply provide links. The town where I was raised: http://www.townofzolfo.com/ The town where I live: http://visitclearwaterflorida.com/
I live in a "village" in a county that has alot of history and the first and still running court house. Its a state forest so hunters are always shooting away, But we are below in a "holler" per say. Its 100% legal to ride ATV's and side by side's in town and the law cant touch you. You can also mount a shotgun or rifle to it and your still good, Not pointed, Rack, Handle bars etc. But if you ride off the road in the forest, ILLEGAL and $1000 dollar fine and bye bye quad. Have a strawberry festival every year and it used to be free, Now its a couple dollars. It was a stop for the old rock island railroad. Before we moved into the new house, We lived on the outskirts on a sealcoat rode. Outside my door, Was a cannon that was used in the civil war and the most north the war and fighting took place. "My" home town, Is the backhoe capital of the world. Has the most crooked alley in the USA and was at one time and reason why you see the name, Burlington Norther/ Santa Fe railrode. Oddly, I share a property line with a millionaire and his father lives down the street. They own a company like the "duck dynisty" but of stink bait for fishing instead of duck calls. Nice folks, Talk to them daily when we have fair weather. This is our "little slice of heaven" i guess you could call it. My gf, Son and I.
We're not too keen on tourists here, so I won't even bother It's like little Vienna, but a lot cooler.
Lots of people living off of benefits and hand outs, but it is very overpopulated with a lack of jobs.. My town is mentioned in the Domesday book (which is apparently cool according to wikipedia) and we have a nice lavender field which was also famous for lavender sales.. 'Wallington was an important centre for the production of lavender oil until about the time of the First World War.'.. other than that, its only a smallish town in London.
Its very quaint and clean. Thats usually the first thing people say when they visit. In the past 10-20 years it went from being a sleepy, dying textile town to a vibrant city with a ton of locally owned shops, bars, and restaurants. It has a big arts section where local artists have their studios and galleries. The main attraction is a park built around a river that goes through the middle of town. Some magazine, I can't remember which one, named it in a list celebrating the 5 greatest main streets in America. I like it mainly because its very pretty, very quaint. It has really wide, tree-lined sidewalks, sidewalk cafes, they keep christmas lights on the trees year round.
Full of old people (not the cool kind) and yankees who can't drive. Starting to get over populated due to a new theme park that just opened up in town. The police will pull you over for ANYTHING and there aren't very many decent jobs here. The only thing to do is to work, chill with friends, smoke weed and go shrooming.
The home of Bourbon. Eastman Kodak The University of Rochester Abby Wambach Xerox Bausch and Lomb Philip Seymour Hoffman Zweigle's hot dogs The Garbage Plate Arthur Shawcross The Double Initial Murders Genesee Beer (LOL!) Lou Gramm from Foreigner (LOL!!!!!)
My town only has 300 people in it Unlike the two towns right next to me, it doesn't get as packed with tourists in the summer Lots of bears!
We are surrounded by a protected green belt so that is rather lovely that nature is no more than 15 minutes in any direction in the city. We have the canal which is beautiful in the summer and great for skating all winter. We are only minutes away from the Quebec side (Gatineau/Hull) so nightlife is rather good and great restaurants. Wondeful trail in the Gatineau hills. Central for skiing. Pretty city. Only 45 minutes away from the largest water park in Canada. Calypso.
Our town's only claim to fame would be a dead giveaway of where I live, so I can't say. However, we used to be a rather ridiculous tourist trap when I was a kid because the nearby lake had water. Many summer days as a teenager were spent parked at boat ramps where the water was dried up and laughing at people who tried bringing their boats down there. Now the area by my house is a giant grassy crater. Water used to come up to the road.
