Church Operations Business

In regard to this, I specifically add this entire paragraph because of phone conversations with Steven. This is a great example of what Chris just wrote about, with regard to trying to please way too many people.

The reality is that the Catholic, Episcopal, Baptist, and a million other churches all do those sorts of things.

However, there is nothing like that written in any of their charters. I'll just bet that it only talks about religion stuff. Any churches can do that kind of thing without creating a foundation around it in their Charters.

It is a prime example of "Paint yourself into a corner."

As far as I'm concerned, That whole paragraph is totally unnecessary. And yes it tends to try and commit us to doing certain things or losing are incorporation status if we fail to do what WE STATE IS OUR VERY PURPOSE for existing. It is very dangerous.

Its better to strike the entire paragraph.​

 

I motion to strike the last paragraph from our Mission Statement

And I will vote to Strike the last paragraph from our Mission Statement.

To wit:
"It is hoped that in this unity we may grow to have the ability to help each other and to help others, and to help the poor, the homeless, the hungry, the addicted, and any who may be in need of help or direction."

It describes things that we do not have the capacity to do, and possibly may never be able to do. We are only setting ourselves up for a fall, if we keep this in.

 

I vote the motion regarding:

Article III, Section 5, subsection A.

To remove the last sentence of that first paragraph.:

"All Executive Directors of the Executive Board are officers of this corporation."

This would mean that only the pres, secretary, and the treasure would be officers. 3 officers

And write in the 3 seats open for Officers in it's stead

Ranger, what it is, the positions that have standard titles like president, Treasure, Secretary are the automatic officers. That's generic. We needn't say it.

Comments/observations:

1) It's GREAT to have the real-world feedback from Cris. While "mileage may vary" in different situations, there's a lot of "reinvention of the wheel" we don't need to waste time and energy on.

2) I agree the goal for the Mission Statement should be to create a broad, non-specific declaration of purpose that is as inclusive as possible. It's not the place to be trying to draft specific lists of tasks and benchmarks. We want a short, simple statement of our purpose that informs our decision-making, not a weighty, lengthy essay that attempts to anticipate the unknown.

That's just me.

Now, be advised, starting in an hour or two, I expect to be off my computer and camped in front of the big-screen watching football. So (Kenny, this means you) don't go gettin' your knickers in a twist if I don't pitch in with a bunch of rapid-response discussion on whatever the next amendment to the amendment turns out to be.

Just sayin' Wah's input looks like it can be really helpful in looking at what worked and <b>didn't</b> work in their experience. Can potentially save us a lot of time and energy repeating the mistakes of others.

So, that's would make 5 out of 7 members voting to amend both of those items. That is a two thirds vote. Deleting the last paragraph from the mission statement, And Deleting the last sentence of the first paragraph of subsection (A) in Article III, Section 5.
