For those of you who had a chance to attend both, if you're even out there (I know they were on opposite sides of the country), do you have anything to say on the two festivals in comparison to each other?

The hype's always about woodstock but I've seen many old musicians and other people talking about how monterey was just as amazing and was where it all started. Just wanna hear you thoughts, if there are even any of you out there!

The biggest difference between the two festivals was, at Monterey you went home at night, it gave us Jimi Hendrix and Ravi Shankar, who died recentely. And you could buy a ticket for a single days event or three tickets to attend the entire event...At Woodstock most had no tickets, and camped over night...The same thing we did at Altamont, Indiana and the huge Pocono Race Track concert in Long Pond Pennsylvania during the summer of 1972..Which, if memory still serves me, was the last of the giant over night festivals, of that era..Police estimates we're put at over 200,000 attending that concert, it was almost as big as Woodstock, it seemed...And the coolest thing I can remember about it was the main street in Long Pond was perfectly aligned with a huge water fall in the Pocono Mountains, about two miles away...Oh yeah, and I got to see Rod Stewart and Faces for the first time.
