I've only recently learnt that there are many versions of the Bible. I was raised Catholic so I grew up reading a Catholic version. Now I'm considering picking up a different one. Wondering what peoples experiences are of reading Bible versions.
I've found by sad experience that I have to use more than one version. RSV is the one I find most reliable. I sometimes use the NKJV, the NIV, and the New American Standard Version. It's surprising to me how many significant differences I've found in these translations.
I have a King James Bible , but am not Christan . There is a version not too many people know about , all I can say is that it is a very thick book . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urantia_Book http://www.urantia.org/ http://www.coasttocoastam.com/show/2012/12/25 http://www.stevepavlina.com/forums/psychic-paranormal/70807-anyone-read-urantia-book.html http://www.stevepavlina.com/forums/spirituality-consciousness-awareness/69265-urantia-book.html desert rat
I guess it deponds on ones definition on what a Bible is . I just wanted to bring it to the attion of the forum . Its in the public domain , you can down load it from the site I posted , free . desert rat
I read the Urantia Book back in the mid-eighties. I recall that a lot of it was about the life of Jesus.
King James. Something about the eloquence and beauty of this version. The Twenty-Third Psalm in any other loses much impact in this great passage. My wife has a four-version Bible that features two versions on the left page and the remaining two on the right page. Makes for expedient study. OP, very good question to post. cheers, - JKHolman
