Hello. My name is Andy, and I often find that my interests draw me in really varied directions. On one hand, I'm all about simplicity, living life as close to the un-messed-with ecosystem as possible, etc., but I also feel that nature includes our natural curiosity and exploration of technology. I'm also an anarchist who occasionally votes, a pagan atheist or atheist pagan or gnostic agnostic or something like that. I'm in the process of trying to figure out how best to go about doing more that I do believe in (such as helping to make free and open telecommunication infrastructure) and less of what I don't believe in (i.e. having a job just to eat so I can have energy to do my job so I can eat so I can...), and while it's a slow process, I'm definitely working on it. I'm here to see who's here, especially in the northern Virginia/DC area. Happy first post-Mayan-Apocalypse new year, everybody. --Andy
Hi Quiet Person. :seeya: Have you ever considered the possibility that we're just been mis-reading that Mayan calendar thingy??
Oh yes, a lot of people sort of missed the whole point of the "end" of the calendar. It did end, but only in the sense that our plain old Gregorian calendar "ends" on December 31 each year. The cycle in the Mayan calendar that ended was called a b'aktun or something like that, and lasted something like 144000 days, or some over 4000 years...something like that, I know there are articles out there on it somewhere...and anyway, the world is beginning and ending each moment. Wow, it's early, or late, or something...
Nice to meet you, and everyone here. I hope everybody has a lucky 2013, and hopefully when cliffs approach, we'll take flight.
