I'm just trying to gather some information about great places around the country. I am looking to find out where the most hippie friendly places are at.

Do you have a favorite place that you know about? :sunny:

i've been all over the eastern third of the country (except most of new england). haven't found a place i didn't like, although i haven't really spent enough time in any particular place to call it my favorite. other than where i live of course.

i don't know which places would be considered hippie friendly though, or really even what hippie friendly means.

The only hippie friendly place in the 6 state region of New England is Vermont.

Rhode Islanders despise hippies except on the Brown university campus
    New Hampshirites can’t stand them
Mainers wouldn’t give you the time of day
Massachusetts hates you outside of the confines of the major institutions of higher learning (Harvard, Brandeis, MIT, BU, Williams, Mount Holyoke, Smith, B.C., and Wellesley) and perhaps Provincetown
Connecticut’er are nothing more than transplanted New Yorkers and despise hippies

If it weren't for all the hippies, and the expensive real estate, Ashland, OR is real pretty. I also love Fort Collins, CO. I wouldn't base a large move off of where there is a large " hippie" population. Almost anywhere you'll go, you'll find moochers.

My husband has three years left in the service before he retires. He wants us to move to N. CA. We may end up in the Chico area. He really loves the Sierra NV mountains and has family in the Quincy area. It's real beautiful, but there are no jobs.

There's a good chance we may end up in Reno. I don't really love Reno, but we have some ties there, mainly a house.

I love Minneapolis but the husband doesn't. He likes Duluth, MN. I really don't want the Midwest unless it's just for the summer.

I didn't have a choice as to where I was born, and am not in the position to move out of the country even if I wanted to. I know there are great places here, nothing and nowhere is perfect. Thanks for the comment though.)

My comment was on topic, the question was "where, if you could".

No one has a choice of where they are born, and most people can't make an international move.

Asheville, NC is probably the most hippie city in the south east. Huge drum circles, a good local music scene, every other person has dreadlocks, and the blue ridge mountains are in your backyard.

    I hear that.
I'm thinking st augustine, since I'm in florida already. I know they have business/residential houses too, so I could have my shop in my house.

Oh bullshit. It's always so convenient to place blame for not getting one's shit together and doing what he/she would like.

I live in a good area already but if i had to move, i would maybe choose somewhere like denver or boulder colorado. I like the mountains and snow and it seems like a fun place.

Ashland is pretty cool, but there are much pretty parts of Southwestern Oregon. I have only lived in two places (Southern Oregon and Humboldt county California) and I really love both of them.

But I would like someday to live near Flagstaff, AZ

I've lived in Florida, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Maryland, Illinois, Georgia, Texas, Alaska, and finally settled in Kentucky. The cost of living here is so cheap. I want to move to Ashland Wisconsin though. We visited about a year ago and really liked it.

I lived in Ithaca NY for 20 years before I moved here to be closer to family. Currently caring for my Dad. I would move back to Ithaca in a flash, if I had the chance.

    Same.
But if I had to, I'd choose New England.

I have my own Internet, thank you.

I had just moved about 4000 miles, and coincidentally from a DIFFERENT state. Mostly, I used Internet on my phone. Anyhow, I dont know how this is relevant. I'm not placing blame on anybody about Internet. FAIL.
