Has anyone here tried Windows 8? I saw my friend, the other day, using Windows 8 and I found them pretty cool. Much improved graphics, faster processing and advanced features. I haven't installed them yet on my PC but I intend to do this in the near future. Just want some extra time to do that out of my hectic schedule. :computer:

I'll probably try it soon just to say I did but I haven't liked any new OS since XP and I don't expect to like Win8. I've already heard they butchered explorer like they've done with every new OS so that will tick me off for sure. As for the desk top, it looks like utter shit to me. It looks like a damn Fisher Price Activity Center for 3 year olds. Maybe I'm getting too old for new tech but I've got no use for "live action tiles", looks like annoying consumer whore-ism personified.

I haven't tried it yet. What are the improvements anyway? Yeah, I've never been a fan of Internet Explorer...It's always had problems and I just don't trust it overall. I'm more of a Firefox guy. Even with that new commercial with the catchy tune, Explorer I think is going the way of the dodo.

Is it true when you opt for Windows 8 you have to save all your "stuff" and do a complete new load of the OS 8 then reload your "stuff" again?

The reason the desktop looks this way is because Windows 8 is meant more for a touch screen based monitor than just a regular one, from what I have seen in reviews it works similarly to Windows 7 if you do not have a touch screen

To AmyBeachGirl: When you are loading any OS you have to save your files before you add a fresh copy. if you don't have a lot of stuff use a USB flash drive, they are for me the easiest to use.

I have played with Windows 8, and let me relate my first hand experience.
First of all I would never install it on anything except a tablet. It's tablet oriented, and I would recommend linux before installing that piece of garbage on any actual computer.
Second someone else already said it, it's commercial whore-ism personified. It's meant to keep you connected to the consumer world and all of your friends that live in it.

Seeing as how I am going to be living in the woods soon i would have no use for such a system. And I wouldn't recommend anyone use it. Not unless you are online 24-7 like the one whore who still sits on myspace spamming all the accounts that nobody has used in like 5 years or more.

It does not work like windows 7 at all. It works like Windows 8 without the touch screen capabilities, therefore defeating the whole purpose of the OS, to be a touchscreen social connection whore.

Oh I had no idea really that Windows 8 were actually meant to be used for touchscreen gadgets. At least, I get this impression from the above posts. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.

I just got 8 installed via yahoo.

I never wanted to leave xp, but did it because of necessity. It even fixed things like my adobe reader.

I now have a yahoo tool bar thing, but I'm starting to like it, and I think I can turn it off if I wanted to.

Didn't have to save anything, just downloaded it from yahoo on my desktop.

Have you have used Windows 7? or have you jumped directly from Windows XP to Windows 8? I am asking this because in the latter, it will be pretty difficult to adjust initially.

    From xp to 8.

I have 7 on my other (new) pc, and I'm still getting used to that, slowly.

I have no problem with either to report.

Anyone know how to fix the apps downloading? Everything is stuck on pending... and I tried going through all of the processes and disabling all but the vital ones like microsoft suggests... still doesnt work...

fixed my problem btw.. huge hassle, i had to move all previous windows data to a diff folder... not that difficult except for the fact that it didnt recognize me as the admin even though theres only one friggin account...

But I enjoy some of the features. The overall integration is particularly nice. Just logging on signs me into espn, iheartradio, gmail, like 6 news sources, etc and a quick glance shows me what i need to hit first. the app tiles are quicker and easier to navigate than old school programs and websites imo

Windows 8 is great on tablets, better that windows 7, on 7 you couldn't get onto the start menu without tapping it a few times. But overall, windows 8 sucks, doesn't feel like a computer anymore. More like an overgrown windows 8 phone So I went back to 7

I failed to point out that I never fully loaded 8.

After it cleaned up my pc and added the yahoo tool bar I was happy with that.

Most everything works better now, but I guess I'm still running xp somehow, lol.

I get a prompt window to finish the process almost every day but keep putting it off by clicking 'remind me later'. I'm not so sure now after hearing you all talking about it if I want to proceed any further with this thing..
