Anyone know any good bands that fit into the same category as bands like Of Montreal, Architecture in Helsinki, Empire of the sun ect? I feel like theirs allot out their that I don't know of yet.
the shins are good indie pop, but i don't know if they'd really fall into a group with Of Montreal. Black Moth Super Rainbow is like Of Montreal i think, so is Flying Lotus. Flying Lotus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elxShPTFF5o&playnext=1&list=PL1DD4CDFB60EAC411&feature=results_video"]Kill Your CoWorkers - Flying Lotus - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtjZOf0WmdE"]Flying Lotus - Zodiac Shit (Official Video) - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mqk2tewN1A"]Black Moth Super Rainbow - Forever Heavy - YouTube This is off Dandelion Gum, which i think is the quintessential BMSR album. Their earlier stuff is more Lo-Fi drone-y Synth-y like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7FtcJbOi1M"]Hairy Mouth by Black Moth Super Rainbow - YouTube which segues into this (badass transition) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edPOeueojXI"]Black Moth Super Rainbow - Side 8 - YouTube that's off Falling Through a Field and it's also a quite good album and here's some Shins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-thzoa5aBQ"]The Shins - Weird Divide - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QD7qIthSdkA"]The Shins - New Slang (high quality + lyrics) - YouTube Oh, Inverted World is the album. My favorite by them, but they can be a little sappy. i enjoy this kind of sap tho ahh yes and of course there's Ween (which isn't indie or pop but everybody should listen to ween cuz they play all genres really well) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuXYZi-rZT0"]Ween - Ice Castles - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADxQFWnDSGM"]Ween - Captain Fantasy - YouTube Nearly forgot the octopus project. i think they're worth mentioning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtEriqQnB6c"]The Octopus Project - Malaria Codes [HQ] - YouTube sorry if i missed the mark, but im tryin
Coolrunnings just put out a really awesome album this year that's both trippy, poppy, and even epic at times. Think Animal Collective meets the Beach Boys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_VLTwRfgzw
The Brian Jonestown Massacre offcourse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJeDg2T66lI&list=FLR3kRlB3YvrrxCp23AeAK7w"](17) ok go - brian jonestown massacre - YouTube The Koolaid electric company https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OacNtGFn-nM"]koolaid electric company - show me the sun - YouTube The Myrrors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcIC-V_N5RE"]The Myrrors - Warpainting - YouTube The Dolly Rocker Movement https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNysktoTpdg"]Enjoy A Paranoia - The Dolly Rocker Movement - YouTube The black angels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06uvOFEMRDo"]The Black Angels - Passover (Full Album) - YouTube And alot more
You might already know this one, but if you don't: the album 'And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out' by Yo La Tengo is a subdued, psychedelic masterpiece in an oeuvre of masterpieces by this wonderful band. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCNNV-x7U84"]Yo La Tengo - Everyday - YouTube
If you like 'Of Montreal'...have you checked out all the side projects of the Elephant 9 co-op or whatever? Not really my cup of tea... Also, I go to Discogs, look under a band's 'Compilations' and dig into the other bands listed. You can also try any bands the members have been in or other bands on the record label with 'em. Happy hunting!
Empire of the Sun are talented for sure...they have the potential to become successful pop stars but... there's just a lil too much honey in their music for my taste... i hope that their 2nd album will be a lil less glitter Still don't have news of one of their side-project... the Sleepy Jackson
If you want to hear were indie began check out Eno Fripp-EveningStar, David Torn, anything Mick Karn, Bill laswell. These are the people who later produced modern indie bands. Also one must not forget the big four, being, The Cure, The Smiths, Joy Division, and Ministry. That and drone, looping , airy shit = indie or prog pop.. math pop is the new indie.. bands like caspian and russian circles display this, as well as all Sargent House bands. The Jazz crew played so many albums with each bozzio, karn, torn , isham, no-man,fripp, eno , frith ,and others. We know of these big times producers but no one knows how many different albums with different players they had. Its still considered the jazz world. tis shit was made to be listened on LP. vinyl. Any ECM record record in Oslo is OMFG. the recording cant be beat in modern times and we are talking about the 70's and 80's.. my blog displays this while spreading new music aswell as local talent. we stand by our name . spread music not bullshit if ever you want more bands hit it up .
