I was walking home (there were big chunks of snow comin' down too) and I see a big red fire extinguisher laying in the sidewalk kinda to the side. There was some other junk laying around too and I noticed another smaller fire extinguisher. I was gonna get both but I was already carrying something else so I just grabbed the bigger one and walked off with it. I tried pulling the trigger but it was an empty fire extinguisher. Should I go back and get the other one? I'm sure it probably came from a building nearby when they were getting rid of some old shit or something? Is there somewhere I could take it and turn it in and get paid for it? I bet people were wondering why I was carrying that thing lol, I thought about giving it to some stranger on the sidewalk and tell 'em Merry Christmas or maybe a homeless person (You could take it to the scrap yard right?) . :rofl:I don't know I have a weird sense of humor sometimes. Actually, there is a tiny bit left in it, but not much. You couldnt see it outside, but when I got inside I mashed down on the trigger and a puff of smoke came out.
It's dead and probably can't be refilled. Other one is probably the same. Somebody had a house fire and put it out before it got to bad... This time of year it was probably a Christmas tree or extension cord fire. I'd just leave them lay unless you feel like scrapping them... If a scrap yard will even take them. It wouldn't be worth it though.
The baking soda type can be refilled. They are just baking soda and inert gas. You can refill it and use it for yourself. Places that refill them might give you some money for one. The baking soda type shouldn't be tested by letting out a short burst. That causes soda particles to get into the valve. Then the gas slowly leaks out over time. The next time you really need it, it will be dead. That's also why the instructions say that it's good for only one use per charge and then needs to be refilled.
It must have been a pretty bad fire if they used up two fire extinguishers, especially that big one. I have my own fire extinguisher in case something goes wrong but it's very little compared to this one.
... you need to make sure that the extinguishers aren't stolen. it's a felony in at least some cases if it turns out they are stolen, it could be enough to indite you for a felony. possibly also receiving stolen property
The one pictured is both recyclable and refillable. A scrap yard can't legally take it unless the cap is removed. If the cap and or any valves is still installed, its considered hazardous waste. Some places require that they be unusable, and make you either drill a hole in the tank or damage the threads beyond repair. The hazard lies not in the chemicals inside but the possibility of explosion in a trash compacter It's compressed gas after all, in a sealed tank. The cylinder is steel in most cases, so if you weigh it empty and check your local scrap prices you'll know how much you'd get for it. Or you can fill it and use it yourself. I have a couple old ones that I fill with compressed air. I used to carry them in my lowrider in case my air compressors failed. My cousin was on a cycling team in college, they had tons of them they would use for their bikes.
that's probably mine... we lost one off one of our trucks the other day - apparently it traveled pretty far!
I'd get the other if I was you. But I don't have any reason, other than greed. If you can use them as compressed air tanks, that's cool, do they have a standard type valve? And some kids, or if you say they where doing work, workmen, probably discharged them for fun. Also, I can second that they should be used all at once... once I gave a few shots off one just for fun, and it had plenty of pressure but lost it in the next day.... it had been my chihuahua walking weapon, in case of problems with large dogs.
it doesn't have any pressure left, but when you shake it there's still a little powder left in the bottom that will sometimes come out if you shake it really hard. I wonder if the other one is still there. Maybe I could make some kind of smoking device from it. Probably only good for breaking car windows lol. Some dude jacked my phone one time and jumped in a gold car and drove off, if I see him again theres gonna be a fire extinguisher comin' straight through his windshield.
Your google search didn't tell you about the time he set himself on fire while freebasing... Other wise you would have gotten the joke.
