I was at the mall with my mom, and she asked me what I wanted for Christmas and what was I going to do. I want a home gym weight set for Christmas (it's too expensive, and I asked her to pay half), but I am trying to work out an "atheist deal" with her, since we're both atheists: buy each other gifts on sale after Christmas. I don't know if she'll agree yet... ------------ For Christmas night, I told her I plan to take a long walk, as I have for the past 2 years. I believe last Christmas I walked 3:30 hours straight, so the idea is to beat my Christmas record, which shouldn't be too hard since my anytime-of-the-year record is a 6 hour walk. So, for all of you anti-Christmas folk out there, what are you doing for Christmas while the anti-anti-Christmas sheeple are sitting around, giving each other gay presents, and stuffing themselves?
Good luck with your mom On a side note: the stores wouldn’t hesitate to sell to you if you were the anti-christ himself; let alone a mere atheist Hotwater
On sale makes so much sense. You'll get so much more for your money. If I was your mother I'd say yes
That sounds like an excellent idea.. I'd like to go home for christmas. Like call my mom christmas morning and be like hey ma, whatchu doing, you too busy to come get me from the train station? She'd be happy
If you can wait flea markets, Salvation Army type stores , and yard sales always have tons of cheap exercise equipment. You can pick up $150 hardly used weight benches for $20, and stuff like that. Free weights are usually all over the place.
while Christmas has it's origins in pagan religion, and later became a Christian holiday, in the us (and elsewhere) it became more of a holiday of family connections and comforting traditions, but to a great degree has been overrun by retailing. as long as you like your mom and get along with her, you can skip the religion and commercialism and still have a nice visit with her on Christmas eve or day. it would probably do her old atheist heart some good :sunny:
After having lived far away from her for most of my life, we now live in the same city. I visit her every other Sunday, pretty much. And, I think, we're finally on the same page about Christmas and celebrations in general. She now knows I mean business and I'm serious when I say I don't like special dates. I think we'll have a great Xmas apart.
The movers broke my treadmill. Fuckers. I've already gained 5lbs, due to living in a hotel and eating shit for the past month. I've filed a claim, but we'll see. They also broke my tv. I guess it balances itself out. I don't like to walk outside unless I have a dog. My mom has my dog. My husband's allergic. I may have to divorce him.
I hate running on a treadmill. I guess running everyday in the army got me used to plodding on hard concrete.
I refuse to run on pavement. I like to know my pace and exact amount of time until I can be done. I got my bum on my elliptical tonight. I still prefer a treadmill.
I've been thinking of buying some exercise equipment for myself. I could join the gym, but with how much I work and the kid, I don't know when I would get there. I can't decide between an elliptical or a treadmill. A coworker said she would sell me her elliptical, if the price is right I might just go with that.
i'd go with the elliptical. they're both basically running machines, and only one of them is potentially hard on the knees.
I've been using my mom's. As well as her pool. She's also got this abs machine. The one that you knee on and push up and down. The other day I did 296. Won't you lift any?
I wish we could have a nice Christmas but my fiance's immediate family is anti-Christmas because they're a bunch of depressing bastards. So him and I will probably go to his cousin's house for their Christmas party so we can have some holiday cheer.
I tried running outside and then it got really cold and I stopped. I've also had issues with my knee since I was a teenager, but even after x-rays they haven't really found what the problem is. It rarely hurts, but when it does it can be really bad and the pain kinda extends to my hip so I don't know if running is really the best. When I went to the gym I used to lift weights, it eventually became part of a relaxing routine. It felt good, especially when you woke up the next day all sore. I think weights are the most effective in causing that feeling. For me to join a gym I'd have to go at 5am before work, because I wouldn't sacrifice the time I spend with my daughter after work, which is already only a couple hours a day, to go the gym. My plan is to get an elliptical first and then go from there. I don't think I can add any other exercising equipment to my already small apartment though. I guess I just want to figure out the workout/work/mom routine before paying to join the gym.
