On the note of Christmas, I recommend a classic Finnish Christmas movie called Rare Exports. It's on the netflix video que right now. It'll make the Christmas curmudgeon smile. It tells the story of a young Finnish boy bravely fighting Santa. 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Haha, awesome, even though I don't like christmass. World doesn't end on america. It is not you who first though about not liking christmass. Some people realise at some point how pointless it is. I don't want unhonest presents from people just because it is christmass. If you feel like gifting someone, do it any day. Why should we be nice to eachother only this one day? Why can't we be nice all year? It is mass media powered holiday. I am sick of hearing christmass songs in every fucking single store month before. You want this one day to be nice. What you admit to is that world fucking sucks and you fuck it and you want at least one day of delusional happiness.
I think it would be better to have a national or worldwide secular 'shopping day' holiday and leave traditional religious observances as they originally were. For the U.S., it would be good to have national 'shopping day' during the summer. It's much easier to shop at retail places in nicer weather anyway.
I hear more vitriol from those who are pro-Christmas on this issue, than some from some dude that says 'Happy Holidays'. Can't we just be happy a stranger says something nice to us at all?
Yeah,it's all commercialized, but think about the kiddies. The little ones deserve some magic in their lives before they have to join the rest of us in realizing just what goes on in the world. There's nothing sweeter than a childs laughter and seeing the joy in their eyes when they BELIEVE. Believing for a while that REAL magic is going to be a part of their lives is a good thing. They'll learn otherwise soon enough. There's so little to celebrate these days. It's pretty cute that when the children that find out that the magic is man-made--they don't tell the smaller ones. Even they understand the magic the little ones deserve.
I like christmas but the family part, I'm not one for all the gifts and stuff but I like the sentiment that comes with the surprise.. I love it mainly for the atmosphere, walking outside in the cold with lights everywhere, today i walked to my local highstreet and a brass band was playing christmas caroles which was pretty nice.. and I like how random people wish you well.. It still feels kind of magical, I suppose its the build up.. I love seeing the kids all happy though There are things i dont like about christmas too..but whatever, might as well be happy.
I agree with MamaPeace...Christmas feels just a little bit magical sometimes and we all need a bit of that in our lives...And it feels like around this time of year there is generally just a bit more good spirit between people...I guess there's no point in analyzing it - Christmas is Christmas and you either like it or you don't.Have a good one folks.

I don't believe in pushing my beliefs on people. It's annoying to be unabashadly condmemned by religious groups or individuals who come to my door, so I try to practice a non preachy existence. On the other hand, I can understand why people who don't like Christmas seem kind of ornery about the whole season.. It's kind of shoved down everyone's throats, with the decorations every where and the constant Christmas songs that play over and over.. I don't really celebrate Christmas but I love Christmas decorations.

Oh lordy if you can be grouchy after seeing that little bit of heaven you are going to be in big trouble. I swear that pic is just the most huggable little baby that you could be blessed with. Smile, life is good.
Like a very similar thread to this that was made last year, I do find the general tone of this thread to be in itself, very self righteous and totally hypocritical. You can't talk down to people and be condemning, and then expect them to be respectful of your wishes. I generally find the pro-Christmas crowd to be more judgemental and self righteous than the people that don't like it. Nobody who is miserable at Christmas, or who just generally doesn't like it should feel obligated to enjoy christmas (or more to the point, put on an illusion of enjoying it) just because others can't accept that some people are not fans of the season and/or are depressed by it (sometimes with very valid reasons for being so). Of course, people who don't like Christmas shouldn't make those who do like it feel bad about enjoying it, but it's totally a two way thing. Simply put, if you want others to respect and tolerate your ways and views, then that respect has to cut both ways, or you do not deserve to have your views respected. People who dislike Christmas are just as entitled to dislike it, as those who like it are entitled to enjoy it. I see far more self righteous pro-Christmas people being preachy and condescending to those who are unhappy at this time of year, than I do the other way around. Treat others as you wish to be treated yourself.
