This is just my idea. I know its probably been thought of before but I still think its Interesting. I have thought for a long time that all thoughts emotions experiences and all other perceptions are without substance. That the only thing I can be sure of is my own awareness. I cannot know if there is any consciousness other than the one I experience. I think that maybe the reason consciousness is given this reality that it experiences is :so that it can be aware of its own awareness. Think about it. If consciousness went on for eternity without thought it would never know it was conscious. It would just be. We could even take this further and say that consciousness goes through many realities each one designed to make it come to a specific realization.
The phrase 'I think therefore I am' was said by the philosopher Rene Descartes and it is essentially this same idea. I differ quite a bit regarding thoughts, emotions and experiences 'not having substance.' I think I vaguely get where you're coming from in a strict philosophical sense but having studied psychology, an avid psychonaut and one who cherishes many of my experiences, I think thoughts, emotions and experience are of great value and the foundations of gaining knowledge. Furthermore, I can use that same reasoning you are using for consciousness about it wanting to be aware of its own awareness for thoughts and emotions as well. 'Thinking' and 'feeling' aware are pretty integral parts of the whole deal. I also challenge the notion that consciousness equates to the level of self awareness you are suggesting. If you maintain the notion that the only thing you are sure exists is your own awareness than I guess you need not face this dilemma I'm about to present but the fact you made this thread and are asking people to interact shows me that you dont have full conviction in that idea. So my dilemma is with most other animals especially when we get down to reptiles and bugs and what not. Most of those creatures seem to have a level of awareness to respond to stimuli but there is nothing that suggests to me that animals such as those are thinking about their awareness.
1 hour bump lol - have some patience. Perhaps this version of existence is merely preparation for our consciousness for the next dimension?
when those creatures can just be easy lolling about and not too concerned about survival , that's when you might notice they'll interact with you especially if yooz a bum . they are able to communicate and also love you . awareness as intersection exists . most excep[tionally , it's a spark that sits on your nose . one sort of unawareness can just be a prejudiced respect for writing . nope , they don't write . writing suggests thinking about awareness ... i don't wish to mean writing is awareness so i'll stop writing , mmm , now .
I'm thankful that as an open minded person I can change my opinions when evidence to the contrary is presented. I think maybe thoughts and emotions do have substance. I think I'm too early in my exploration of consciousness to make any statement that I truly believe in. I do maintain that awareness is eternal.
Eternal? Where does it reside? Do or thoughts or emotions leave our brains and travel on sound or light beams and speedl endlessly thru the universe?
I'm not sure. Being nonphysical I don't think awareness has to reside in any place. It just "is". Somehow it is tied to the physical being but I cant imagine how.
I would suggest to you to look up this site... "kryon.com". It just might help you understand some of it,especially the "question and answer section".
Yupp, it's been thought of before. It's called Solipsism. If you want to read more about, wikipedia is at your aid: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silopsism The thing that always spooks me about solipsism is that, if it's right, than that means that I was the one who invented the idea that nothing exists, but my own conscious, because it's supposed inventors are figments of my imagination D :
You can ask other people how their perceive reality or how their consciousness work. This idea can be dangerous in some peoples minds.
I remember being in elementary school and a kid mentioning in some story he wrote, "how do I know any of you are real? What if you're all just figments of my imagination?" and that just blew my freakin mind.
