What is a book that you are reading or have read and what are your thoughts about it? Or something you analyzed or connected with? Right now I'm reading Catcher in the Rye and I appreciate the simplistic dialogue, but strong content. I'm not that far in at all, but I enjoy how the protagonist connects to me with his compacted anger and irritation, but calm facade, along with his hidden but overwhelming lonesomeness. It's not too deep and it may not be the "correct" thing to take from the book, but it's something that I appreciated. What about everyone else?
I like Catcher in the Rye, but I hate the main character. He's too bipolar. He thinks one way, then goes the other. He thinks he has all the answers, but he doesn't. He thinks so low of others, but he's worst then they are.
I'm currently reading "The passing of the great Race" by Madison Grant and although most likely scientifically outdated due to being near 100 years old, I've learned a few things about myself. It's about the three races of mainland Europe and their characteristics and attributes. There was a section in there describing the physical and mental intolerances certain races experience when outside their environment. From climate to altitude to lateral changes a persons mood can differ dramatically etc. this completely makes sense as to why I'm no fun in hot temperature or away from my mountains. I have also learned to define the characteristics of any given person from Europe and class them in racial catagories and learned that language nor religion should define a race.
True, he is blatantly hypocritical. Although when he is not as angry at the world he is speaking of his childhood (from what I've read so far). When he speaks about his brother and his childhood crush there is not one goddamn used. He yearns for the simplicity of childhood a lot. I think there is some self-hatred going on there too though. But yeah, he openly states that he hates phonies and a chapter later says he is one of the biggest liars ever and references numerous times to his insincerity through phony smiles or handshakes. I like it though, as we're all hypocrites to some degree, some more than others. I don't know about you, but I think some fucked up things sometimes, but I never voice those opinions, and I may even emulate the exact thing I'm criticizing later. We've all been there when we've had to put on a facade because it's the "right" thing to do. I'm very early in the book, so don't spoil it for me, heh, but what did you take from the book as a whole after reading it? My bad for typing so much, I'm really digging this book.
Very True. Yes, I think many people are like this. Like I said before, I like the book. I think it's a good story about a VERY flawed character and the journey he takes over the course of a few days. But the main Character drives you to wanna pull your hair out sometimes. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, if anything it proves how much a good writer the author was.
