working black friday

This is mainly for people who work in retail to share past experiences or todays experience of working in retail on black friday.

This is my third year in a row working black friday. Went in at 3am and left at noon. Right when i got there, there was a fight between two customers and the cops had to take them away. Than about an hour later about 12 latinos were escorted out by the cops and had em sit on the curb for attempted thefy. they were such n00bz it was lulzy. 4 or 5 of my female co workers were in tears today for various reasons. managers yelling at associates, associates yelling at managers. At about 10 this morning when anoter big crowd came in, there was a system failure which resulted in all the cash registers being shut down for an hour, and very very angry customers

To me, anyone who partakes in Black Friday is a fucking moron.

i work in a small town with few shopping options. the streets were conveniently deserted all day.

 

I agree. It seems like such a trashy event (I said event because I currently can't think of any other word).
That's what's depressing, and people being idiots is depressing.

 

I don't get the news.... Has anybody been trampled, pepper sprayed, or shot this year? Seems violence is part of the black Friday tradition these last few years.

there's certainly a lot of things in the world to be unhappy about.

there's lots of very nice things in the world too

if you have good health, good relationships, something to do with your time, and have your basic material needs met, you can probably be happy

it doesn't do much good to be bitter about the world. maybe life has thrown enough bad things at you that it's the only way you can be

there are probably some ways that you can make your life happier though

there is always the possibility that things can change for the better

 

no, you just have to be depressed to not be happy. you have a roof over your head, food to eat, and you could probably even have a few friends if you weren't such a dick to everyone. there is a fuckload wrong with the world, but i doesn't mean you have to be miserable all the time and bring everyone else down with you. you should talk to a therapist dude, seriously.

and i think most people could probably benefit from therapy. we live in a world we weren't designed for... we're bound to have shit get weird in our heads.

 

Maybe this is just his place to vent about his views on society. Just because someone is a cynic or a pessimist doesn't mean that they are depressed. However, he has expressed his unhappiness, so perhaps he is depressed. On the other hand that list of links of people attacking each other over material items is pretty depressing.

 

less depressing than the daily news articles about people attacking each other over religion. at least these people have a chance of getting something out of it...
