Walmart associates protested in 100 cities today. Shoppers interviewed said that they supported the strikers but went ahead to shop in the Walmart store anyway. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/23/walmart-strike-black-friday_n_2177784.html

Sure, Walmart buys in mega-mass and can produce low prices. That appeals to everyone. When it comes to buying x-mas for kids that makes a huge difference to people who are financially hurting.

In order for things to get better for everyone, there has to come a day that people lay aside the "every man for himself" mentality and realize that what affects your fellow human eventually affects us all. Until there is a majority that understands this; that is willing to stop stepping over others to save themselves; nothing will change.

Good to see. Thanks, Ty. :)

1,000 protesters in Paramount, CA. That's good. Raising awareness is good.

I agree with the local shopping idea. When I was working and did shop more, I tried to get everything from local shops. Sadly, many of the shops I went to have gone out of business.

    They had a choice.
I could have gone Xmas shopping, I didn't. They did.

The people aren't as weak as you think they are, they just make different choices than you do. They just value different things.

I predict xmas sales totals this year will top xmas sales totals from last year. I am basing this on a hunch because I have already seen more xmas lights in people's yards than last year. I think people are feeling better and will buy more.

    It's just an Aeri-ism, lol.

    Buy local, people.

    :2thumbsup:

I was thinking about that the other day...

How ubiquitous cards are now. And how those card companies are literally just skimming money off of all those transactions. Just for "convienience".

Don't really care as much when I have to be at one of "those places" ... but I really like not using a card at local, mom n pop places. Cash isn't that hard, what did we do before atm's and cards? Cash.

Since this thread is promoting at home goods. Hey I'm low on money and struggling to get rent paid as a single mother, so If you need everyday things or if you participate in the gift giving events coming up then please check out my etsy site. I make all sorts of useful and appealing items. If I don't have it here, maybe I can make it so just message me. I'm from florida and am a struggling artist. Please check out my things and know that I too am doing my best and will not be feeding into this consumerism that is causing our very downfall. I do my very best to use high quality rescued materials whenever possible but also incorporate new materials as needed or requested.
