I agree with this guy, but instead of telling people they are zombies he should tell them why. Insulting them is only going to enrage them and probably make me buy things in spite ( see: chick filet buy a burger to support anti gay rights) he should be telling them why they're being zombies and give them some real facts that could sway their opinion instead of pissing them off. I understand being mad about it, but obviously they are not listening to him if they're swearing and throwing things at him.
This is an example of controlled opposition. The person who did that video is unwittingly being used as a pawn by the corporate establishment. The rant makes the consumers even more defiant and determined to buy excessively, hence doing exactly what the corporations want.
Bet he felt really self-rightously great after doing this. He's not wrong but... What did it change? Nothing. It's just a circle jerk to make himself feel superior. This isn't how you 'wake people up'
Yes it was abrasive, but some people will react negatively to any form of criticism, whether it's valid or not. If the guy had driven by a thousand times with a loud speaker playing "All You Need is Love" (and yes I hijacked the original message of that song, sort of), the message would have been received by maybe 1% of the people standing there. The fact is, the kind of person that would stand in line for this nonsense is likely to be beyond reaching out of sheer stupidity, but I don't doubt that at least a few of said "zombies" felt some degree of shame as a result of this, and that made it worth the heavy handed effort, in my opinion.
It would have been kinda funny if it had turned out that it was Santa Claus yelling on that bullhorn. If the dude does the rant again next year, he should dress up as Santa.
