Reminds me of the time I was working one winter on a blasting crew outside of a little village called Nuiqsut. This is located where the Colville river empties in to the Arctic Ocean about sixty miles west of Prudhoe Bay. WE were driving back to camp after a twelve hour day of drilling and packing holes to blast material out of a pit to make a road and pad for a oil drilling operation. Anyway it was a friday night and about thirty below zero and pulled over on the side of the ice road we were on was a pickup truck with the hood up and a young Inupiak/Eskimo woman with the shortest black mini skirt and black hose bent over the the hood of that truck looking at the engine. It was only a battery problem which we were able to help with but I will never forget the sight of that lovely ass and that black mini skirt all the way up in the Arctic in the middle of winter.
Yeah, I don't like people like that. But you're not describing "hipsters", you're describing people in investment banking, hippies, bus drivers, pot smokers, and people from just about any walk of life. "hipster" was meant that way when it was originally (in the recent past) used, but now it describes a particular group of people. Just like "scene" described stupid whores who latched onto the emo "scene" because they where part of the scene but not legit about it, but now it describes.... what was emo. There's some that are legit, and there's some fakes. Just like there's some fake hippies. Or fake anyone else. That is part of the human condition, and is excrabated by modern society.
Do you live where i live? I think not. Do you know how the self-proclaimed "hipsters" act in my area? Probably not. I know enough people that call themselves hipsters, and I know what those people act like. And that is the vast majority of "hipsters" where i live. I don't know about everywhere else, but that's the "hipsters" I know of. No, I don't care if people don't like how I dress or what I do. If they don't like it, they don't have to. It's a matter of opinion which everyone in a free country is entitled to. I am entitled to think that some styles of clothing are ugly, just like others can think that my style of clothing is ugly. It's not that I don't think they may be good people, it's that hipsters where I come from are pretty much posers. And fuck everyone's glasses. Glasses suck to wear! (all glasses, not just Buddy Holly glasses)
Hey, You should check out your sig Also, yes, everyone here should know where you live. You have stated right under your name where it says "location:"
yes, well some of us don't see very well, and have no choice contacts hurt my eyes, and i hardly ever find them at the thrift store
True. Just people where I live who call themselves hipsters. and also those people act like total idiots and actually do think they're better than others because of their "tastes" and whatever. I know not all hipsters are like that, just where I live.... And they are so damn annoying! So I kinda got into a rant, sorry And I was being bitchy because I had a run-in w/ the so called "hipsters" today... idiots. Some of us don't have a choice. I hate my glasses! Plus they're crooked now... Mostly I'm not used to it because I haven't had to wear them for years and years, so they're a burden on my face. Your eyes get used to contacts. It builds a callous, which sounds really disgusting! Anyways, sorry everyone for my bitchiness. Damn annoying people in Omaha...
So you're going to take douchebags word for it, as to what group they represent? Charles manson was an average hippie, I guess.... I mean, the fucking beatles wrote him a campaign song. I miss my glasses. Going to get a cheap pair for some activities. But I'm not noticing any contact callus, years later.
Ok, I know that not all hipsters are like that. It's just that the "hipsters" around here are total douchebags. The stereotype of a hipster is the douchebaggery I described earlier, which fits all the "hipsters" i've ever seen. I just find glasses to be a burden because i've never really had to wear them. Probably over time i would get used to it or maybe if i had to wear them since I was little, but not yet. Well, maybe it doesn't work for some people? My eyes have built a callous (not that it's actually visible) but I can touch my eye with my finger and it's most definitely not as sensitive as it was before I wore contacts.
I always thought they were toned-down scene kids. -shrug- People have called me a hipster... i have no idea why, though. I dress more like i just got out of England in the 90's :x
a hipster is just another person just like you or i, i don't think people should really be categorized, "gangsters" "business men" "the homeless" "skaters" "punks" "geeks" "emo" "scene" "jocks" "hippies" i don't care what you call your self, your just another person in my eyes.
Funny thing is, that many people take old literature characters and claim that they are hipsters or gay (without joking!). For example, I don't know if you read anything by german author Karl May, but in short - he wrote a bunch of novels centered around young apache chief Winnetou and a german guy who came to america. They were blood brothers, killing bandits and destroying evil plots of corrupted businessmen etc..etc...To get to the point, nowadays, many people claim that they were gays just because they were able to give their lives for each other and other usual heroic stuff and so. I think it's really shortsighted. Not that I am offended or something, but I think that things like this are really not helping... Ah, and there was also a scalped guy wearing a big grey wig and a bum-like clothes and beard, acting as a funny sidekick. I guess he would be considered a hipster.
I think the highest population of hipsters in the world reside in Brooklyn. Its a mindset a way of living that differs greatly from hippies. I do not think the word hipster comes from hippie. And it can be an insult or compliment wen called on depending who you talk to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgu3IG9bLzQ
I have a bit of hipster in me, I think. I listen to obscure music by rule. I refuse to use apple products because of how popular and trendy they are. I wear clothing that's vintage in style and am a wee bit cocky at times. I got no problem with them. Every hipster I've met has been cool. They are down with good conversation. I like that in anyone.
my first thought when i read the title was "andy warhol" but those videos in the first page of the thread were pretty spot on for new age hipster
I've never been to Brooklyn but I'd put money on the Mission in SF as having more. I think any idiot who is riding a fixie with no brakes in a hilly Urban setting deserves to get hit by a bus. One of my friends defines hipsters as, "People who have money that act like they don't." C/S, Rev J
