I am going to detox tomorrow. It will be my first official time trying to get clean. I've been on heroin for about 6 months. Ive managed to keep a fulltime (swingshift) job somehow... but last week I was arrested an was found with a bundle on me. Needing to have somethin to impress the court I decided to go to detox. Being honest with myself, I know im not done with opiates... Their still a part of who I am... and I do love them. I just wish the negative aspects that come along with them were non-existent. I am looking for any tips on how to get put on methadone. I know that methadone can be just a big a problem as the dope, but im not looking for a lecture... Just any tips from someone who's gone to treatment and gotten methadone. I'd be forever grateful... Thanks

I remember your posts fondly. And I wish you the very best. :) I always like what Mother Teresa said: It's the small things that make us become better. Nothing is too small. As long as it leads to a better future for ourselves and others. Just open the door. That's where it all begins. :sunny:

You are totally welcome. :) And I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Or as Janis would say: Never compromise yourself. You're all you've got. :sunny:

There are detox programs that will use methadone for just a few days to help ease withdrawal. just call around to defferent detox programs and ask if they do a medical detox. I wouldnt suggest anyone go cold turkey. This only used for a coupple of days. You have only been using for for 6 months. I know getting clean sounds impossible right now. Its the drug and fear of withdrawal that is making you think you cant make it. There is every reason to beleave you can get off the drug.

One thing you haven't considered. The court may well support your attendance in a methadone program. However, if a period probation follows the disposition of your case your continued compliance with the clinic will likely be a requirement. Now you are in a tough spot. These programs will drop you in a heartbeat if you do not comply with every little requirement. You could easily find yourself kicked off the meds in withdrawal and now faceing new charges for violations of probation. There are compassionate detox programs but most maintaince programs are not.

With all that said you have to make your own treatment decision. Just look up methadone clinics in the phone book and go down there. I don't know if they will accept you yet since you haven't even tried detox and rehab once yet. Different clinics have different rules. Different states have different laws, as well. Not knowing where you live makes it hard to give better information. You realy might see hope once you get off the drug. Please do not take any of this as a lecture. It is not. I want to see you get a chance at recovery. You do have a chance. I want you to have all the information good, bad, and ugly. After you have thought about everything and are intent on that course of action I will give more information on a methadone or subboxon clinic in your area. I would just need to know state, city, and county you live in. Methadone and suboxon are a life saver to some people but they are so much harder to get of.
