GLENGLEN kindly suggested I should adopt a cat (since I am totally fond of them, etc.) So far, I have only managed to become a foster parent. This is Monster the Cat, and I did some photoshop work to make it seem like he was on national television. :2thumbsup: Actually, Monster is totally cute and clever, so he deserves the star treatment -- even if it's only due to my limited artistic tendencies. The so-called drawing is a computer self-portrait of me: A totally Queer Poet. Frankly, I think Monster puts me to shame. Big time. Thanks for the inspiration, GLENGLEN. QP P.S. Almost forgot: HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!
It is true that they are mysterious and independent. But they used to burn so-called witches for that. And they were totally human. :sunny: QP
Nope sir, people who dislike cats are the ones who are misinformed. QP is right. The real reason the people who don't like cats don't like them, is because they are mysterious and independent. Cat's can be affectionate and loyal animals, despite cat hater's protestations to the contrary. It's simply that a cat's trust and love must be earned, unlike dogs who will give those things simply as a matter of course. People dislike cats out of ignorance, just as many people are hated out of ignorance. If someone can't understand something, then it must be awful. It's much easier to think that way than to try and understand. Cats unlike dogs, simply will not tolerate fools, which I think says more about the people who hate them, than the cats themselves! QP, Monster is lovely! He is anything but a monster. lol <3 I have a black cat too!
I also own a cat, and had another before him for 14 years before he died. I couldn't disagree more with that statement. How can you profess to love something that you find "evil"?
Thanks, IS. That was an intelligent and lovely response. I like the fact that one has to earn a cat's love and respect. Monster was dumped in my friend's front yard 12 years ago. He was still a kitten. A lady friend gave him his odd name. I'm still not sure why? But he used to catch a lot of wild birds, and leave them on my best friend's doorstep? So maybe that's the reason? Sort of makes sense. LOL. QP
Say what? I'm a city boy. No roosters wake me up at the crack of dawn. :sunny: Especially since I live in a skyscraper. QP P.S. I gave up my teasing days a long time ago. I am a total recluse. I settle for movies and books. Oh, and the internet. Big time. :2thumbsup: QP
Dear Mr Maelstrom, Tit Gives Me Great Pleasure To Accord You An Invitation, To Meet Me Out The Back In The HF's Parking Lot, I Have A Little Matter I Would Like To Discuss With You Face To Face...:boxing_smiley:. Please Make The Effort To Be Punctual...:toetap05:. Jeers Glen.
I don't know why we give animals human traits....evil personable loyal whatever. We should avoid anthropomorphising animals. Because whether they're soft-bellied Ediacaran lumps of cells or super-intelligent mammals, they are ALL-without exception-superior to we poor humans in every way. I'd rather be anything, literally anything, than human. Animals don't cause or participate in wars. They don't destroy entire civilizations in the name of profit. They fight, kill and die, breed and reproduce and struggle only in the name of existence. Giving them human qualities demeans them. Cats are cats, just as dogs are dogs and three toed sloths are three toed sloths. Loyal, disloyal, who gives a fuck.....the animal is what it is and only that. It is a glorious way to be because there is only this life, for an animal, in which to be.
Wow, you said it much better than I ever could. Big time. How did you get to be so wise. Is there a secret? :sunny: P.S. Happy Thanksgiving! And I agree with every word you said. QP
yes. The secret is to be as ugly as fuck, unpopular, small, cowardly and nerdy. Then all you do is read books, and as you become wiser you get more and more disenchanted with everything. Thanks for the kudos, but I'd rather be pretty and dumb anyday.
Surely you jest? Would you rather be Janis Joplin or one of the many generic Pop stars that soon fall from the sky? Give me Janis. The rest are not worthy of the 15 minutes given them. I wanna hear Ball and Chain. :2thumbsup: QP
I am the staff for a 16+ year old cat, I say 16+ because I don't know how old she is, the vet is the one who said she is more than 15 years old and I've had her a year and half. Steffy is a rescue kitty from the streets of Austin, a friend found her. Steffy was being sucked dry by fleas, has no teeth, can't hear and can hardly move from arthritis. After a flea dip, the rinse water ran red with blood from all the fleas, I was worried she wouldn't make it from dehydration. It took some doing to get her strong and healthy but she is the most loving cat I've ever had. I will lay on the floor to watch tv, she will lay next to me and reach out with her paw and gently touch me to say "please pet me" and talk about purr, she has the loudest purr. She helped me get through a very rough patch, I lost my dad and sister in less than a year. I prefer the company of animals to people, animals (cats in my case) are not judgemental, they don't give a shit what you look like, how much money you make, the kind of car you drive etc.
Steffy sounds like a true survivor. And I'm glad she has you to help her live each day. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your dad and sister. I lost my sister and mom in the same year. And I've never been the same. So I get what you're saying. I'm glad Steffy helped you get through this rough patch. Cats seem to have a natural gift for empathy. That's why I think they are so cool.
